I've been looking along the lines of turboing and I'm pretty sure that's the way I'm gonna go, I'm going to collect some bits up and build a mpi engine up, I'm not going to put a timescale on it so hopefully spreading the cost over the period will help keep it seeming cheaper lol,

Anyone know any info on where I can get a mf2??

You should read up on what honey monster is doing, the kit he is using is at a very good price.

Why not go the 16v route?
 
Do you have a linky to his thread?? I'm on my phone and the search feature is,let's say pants at best lol

I have been debating the 16v route and the turbo route and I like the idea of a tub more than the n/a, its something I'd really like to learn more about and I want to keep the 8v setup as it is such an easily maintained engine

Ok so I've found out that the mf2 is made by aquamist but where do I get one lol

You dont:p save up and hold out for a aftermarket ecu.

My megasquirt has cost me ~£200 for the kit, getting it built and a relay board, LC-1 wideband was £125

I dont have a clue about the thing, but ill soon learn when i get round to wiring it up.

And go 16v tub
 
Lol I've just read through honeymonsters thread and am intrigued about the system he is using would it be possible to use that system without the turbo?? Therefore giving a map-able 1242 via your lap top?? And thus being able to use a spi ecu and the piggy back system to run injectors for a mpi setup?? Or am I barking up the wrong tree??

Well thanks to puntoproject I've found the master ecu unit on ebay and for less than 150quid it seems like a steal, if I can get a mpi top end will I need to upgrade my current fuel pump or will it be fine?? Then if I decide to go the turbo route it'll be an easier conversion :)

There is no need to run spi and mpi with that ecu. you could just splice the wire to the injector to make it MPI and this would run the car with the SPI Ecu.


Then install the after market honey monster is using.
 
Yea that was what I was thinking to a point, what I wanted to know was if I'm running a spi ecu couldn't I just mount the piggy back and run the injectors for mpi from that?? The master ecu would then be mapable by myself and cancel out the need for a mpi loom/ecu swap??

Yes this is perfectly possible, the DET 3 isn't designed specificaly for turbo use, infact going N/A frees up more functions. I suggest you read the manual many times over and familiarise yourself with it if you're going to buy one though. Fitting the unit will be easier but setting it up will be nearly as hard as any SA, infact harder than some. It will definetly give you some benefits on a modified engine as it will allow you to alter the timing and fueling to suit your modifications. You really need to do a lot of research because when you're ready to install the unit you really should know all the answers to these questions. It would be a good start towards a turbo conversion too as you would be familiar with the maping before you went forced induction.
 
Hey guys a couple of months on and bugger all has happened, well I say nothing, but
Little bits and bobs have been going on but nothing major,

Well today I got the head dropped off along with the 866cam to be be shimmed at the local machine shop, I'm now after a bigger throttle body, I've had words with the engineer there and he said he can rebore the tb out and sleeve it but I would need to find a butterfly to suit whatever size it is tone bored too, has anyone used any straight fit oem butterflies from specific makes/models or does anyone know where I can buy one from??

I've seen a mention of jenvy?? But I have no idea what this means lol, can anyone elaborate for me please

I've been talking to mrfixit from on here actually about a TB for a 1.1, which has turned into me looking for an uno inlet, then send it all to him.
