Hey guys,

Im a member of my-sei and would normally post on there but the forum seems to be down so il see what you guys think :D

I have a 1999 V Seicento Sporting Abarth with a 32mm Tb, Magnecor KV85 Leads, K&N Induction kit, JanSpeed Performance exhaust, Port polished giving me 75 BHP done on a rolling road, yet I have an odd flat spot which has only recently appeared ....

Il explain what I have done since this appeared, First of all I raced a renault 5 and was very close :) but after that and holding the revs considerably it has felt abit odd.
The flat spot appears after 4300 rpm so when i flaw it I get my quick acceleration and nice pull in each gear and then when i reach around that RPM the car seems to stop pulling almost like something in the engine slows down and it i a noticible feeling, you can actaully feel it stop while sitting in the car...

I must point out my brakes are bad at the moment doing alot of odd noises like a perminant high pitched noise like you here when you press your brakes sometimes but this is that noise all the time while driving until you press the brakes hard and then the noises vanishes, why I am mentioning this is that the feeling with the flat spot feels like almost someone is just pressing the brakes ever so slightly that it slows the car just fractions but noticible and thats the feeling.... (n)

I really am not sure what the problem is... weather it be maybe the pads are rubbing on the disc maybe at higher speeds "doubtful" or that something in my engine has gone funny.

When the engine has been warmed up and the heat out of the heaters is pritty hot it has this flat spot and even 20 mins into a journey the flat spot is still there but eventually it goes away after maybe 25 - 30 mins of driving and feels how it use to be....

Any feedback or input into what this might be would be excellent!

Adam

Hmmm, could be a sticky caliper but that would hold you back at any revs so we can eliminate that.

Have you got sufficent cold air feeds for the K&N?

Cento's have a known flat spot around 2.5-3.5 RPM so maybe yours is the same?

Liam

Hey,

I have enough feeds for the K&N yes, And I have never had a flat spot around 2500 rpm as the 32mm Tb and other mods removes this, but this flat spot is near the top of the revs like it just decides it cant pull anymore its very odd :bang: but I must point out that this flat spot only happens at night and not during the day  I thought at first it was simply the engine taking longer to heat up properly due to the freezing air but this would not take a good 30 mins to warm up and definatly not 30 mins after the car was run 2 hours before!

75bhp thats pretty nice for whats been done.

yeah i`d like to see how much it is for port polishing as i know someone in mk that can do it for me for bugger all really. plus he`s giving me low compression pistons for my new cam that i will be ordering ;)

Bloody hell wat are you doin here adam :p :D

Your not boring everyone with your sei are you :p

Suprised you havent started talking bout HGT's yet :p

Hi
Why do you need different pistons for a cam change?or are you doing a turbo conversion?
Cheers
Adrian

no its a stage 2 race cam and i`ve been told by my mate that has a stage 2 race cam on his nova that i`ll need low compression pistons because if i dont the pistons will fook up as they wont be able to take the increased power and revs, so i`ve been told anyway.

I think your mate is talking rubbish Beasty sorry.

Tell him he don't need them.

Hi Adam

If the flat spot came after a race then it could be your timingbelt have jumped a tooth.

I had the same feeling in my Cinq. once - the power was completly lost after 5000 rpm. - I just timed the cam again and the car woke up again.

Try this - Hope it will sort out you flat spot...

Cheers (y)

He might mean forged pistons because they are stronger but i believe you only need to lower compression pistons if running a turbo.
Try and get in touch with fixitagaintomorrow it might save you the cost of an engine rebuild
Cheers

P.s You say your mate knows loads about cars, how come he`s got a nova?LOL
HeHe :D

cos the nova is running t40`s, full ashley racing exhaust, stage 2 racing cam, some head work and some other bit and bobs, and its producing just over 130bhp from a 1.4 so its not slow  revs go off the clock safely and we did 120mph down the a5 a few secinds after getting on.

yeah will get some better info off of someone :)
