Re: Need a little help....

Hi beca, welcome to the forum

Which gasket is leaking? Head gasket? If so, was the head skimmed?
Brake fluid should be a yellow-ish colour, not sure how it'd end up black, but if that's 'expired' that would go some way to explain why your brakes are 'going'. Have you checked the discs, pads and shoes for wear?

As for a new seat, check the classifieds

Edit: Also just though, if someone has said a particular fluid should be blue (and it's now black) they may have meant the coolant, is it in the big bottle on the left hand side? The brake fluid reservoir is the small bottle at the rear of the engine bay.

Re: Need a little help....

Assuming Sporting?

The seat can generally be welded up (assuming, again. it's the adjustment bar).

Brake fluid should be clear. Black generally indicates that it needs changing, but may also point to worn seals (particularly on master cylinder). All brake parts for these are cheap, but please be a bit more specific with the issues.

Someone didn't do the rocker cover gasket properly (and/or didn't check that the breather tube was clear).

You desperately need a Haynes (or Porter) manual.

Re: Need a little help....

if the brake fluid is black thats probably why the breaks are not good.

as i remember a new master cylinder for a cinq is 39.99 from a car parts place. well thats going on last years prices.

breaks are still bad on my car. MOT guy said i need the whole system replacing. but at least it passed.

Re: Need a little help....

Last one I bought, IIRC, was 17 quid from Fluffy. Prices will have gone up in the meantime, but we're not even sure it is the master cylinder yet.

Re: Need a little help....

Hi sorry I didn't write back
I took the car to a mechanic and he's told me its the brake master cylinder and would charge 170 to get that all fixed and replaced so its not too bad now. Thanks for your replies though helped me to go in there and find the problem easily

seems quite steep to me that.. new master 30 so that means they are charging few quid for some brake fluid and near on 140 for labour, which to me is about 2 to 2 1/2hours. I would have thought they could do it in under an hour easy, i certainly could on my drive on my own.
I'd ring about for a couple of quotes from some local garages for a price.

Yep. I'd buy the book or find another garage.
