Hi guys,

I've been reading a few of the wiring threads for MPI/16V conversions which detail the functions of the wires going through the Cinq D4 connector. I've seen it written that on the engine loom side the red wire is for the Starter. The haynes manual seems to indicate that the circuit to the starter and alternator are independent of the engine loom, so can anyone tell me what the function of this red wire to the starter is please? Maybe the megasquirt guys?

I'm doing a 16v conversion and having a custom loom made to go with an aftermarket ECU. I want to make sure I know the functions of all the D4 wires so that they can be included/replicated or not as necessary.

Thanks,

James

You should have a red wire going under the battery tray (this is the one i use). IIRC the punto used the red wire through the D4 for this. I never managed to get this to work as presume it was wired differently on punto. Its basically just a direct wire from key to starter solenoid to tell it when to go.

And where is your thread full of pictures. ;)

punto uses the d4 for the starter the cinq has a seperate mini loom that you have to use.

the punto is the same as the sei in this respect as the sei uses the d4 for the starter.

I'll try to describe it a little better:

On my Cinq engine loom between ECU pin 23 and the fuel pump relay pin 7 is a black/violet (NX) wire. Halfway along this wire a red wire is spliced in which connects to the D4 pin 3. What does this red wire do?

Right here is the pin lay out from Punto to cento (pins number)

Black Red - Bullet connector
Grey yellow - pin 6
pink yellow - Not use
thin grey green - pin 9
Thick orange - Orange. This one doesn't have a pin number but is 2 row right of pin8
Thick red - No Use
Black - pin 8
Brow white - Pin 1 it doesn't say on the connector but is to the left of pin2
Blue - pin 3
Blue black - Pin 2
grey white - pin 7
grey black - no use

Everything works if u wire it as above even the rev counter! Assuming you have a cinq sporting :).

Ming, I'm not using any part of a Punto loom - I'm having a new loom made, but it must have the correct functionality. I would like to know the purpose of the red wire in the Cinquecento engine loom which I describe above please. I don't understand the purpose of what you have posted.
