Hi,

First model 1998 Seicento 0.9.

I have problems starting my ceicento (lovely car for the 1.5 years I've been owning it).

I'm guessing it's the fuelpump but want to confirm (or disprove) this as my knowledge in cars are slim to say the least.

If the car is cold:
If I turn the key and try to start it, I can hear the car trying to start, but no ignition.

However, if I turn the key to first position, and let it sit there for a while (10-20 sec) it normally starts with no problems, if it doesn't start straight away, I let it sit in first position again for a few seconds.

If the car is warm, then it seems to start with no problem what so ever.

On top of your heads, think it's the fuel pump or might something else be villain in this drama?

Thanks!

id think either fuel pressure is slow to build up or something to do with the cold start sensor

Ash

also think it will be temp sensor (one ontop of the thermostat ?)

First of all, thanks for your replies :)

If it's the sensor? Is this something I can fix myself (consider me a complete idiot when it comes to engines) or should I let a professional deal with this?

Any troubleshooting steps I can take to see if it is the sensor?

hmm Not really glue up on the electics but you can check out the output as the temp changes.

Cheers for that. :) Hopefully it saved me from ordering a fuelpump in vain.

My brother is visiting from Sweden next week, and he's into engines etc, so might put him to work on his holiday hehe (probably have to buy him a few pints of Murphy's for it though :) )

Update:

My brother came over from Sweden on some holiday and since he's the carwiz in the family I let him have a look.

It's the coding for the keys that was the issue.

The light came on briefly when turning the key into first postition, but as it didn't stay on I thought no more about it and therefor I did not try with the spare key. Spare key worked, so I'm guessing I have to contact a Fiat servicecentre to "recode" for the keys?

But, brother did a service on the car, switching startplugs, shorten tubes with crack on them, changed oil etc so she runs better than ever at the moment :)
