I think a couple of our student friends were thinking of doing a sequential shifter as a university projects.

It was a couple of the guys on here that were thinking of doing it, I think.

However, I don't think it is a roller after all.

have you got any info/progress from the guys doing it? ill be more then pleased to look into it myself.

when i looked myself it seemed pretty difficult and would need a whole new top made

I believe I be the student you are talking about. Don't worry I haven't forgotten about it, I'm just a bit busy at uni (don't laugh) at the moment.

The way I have though about doing it is using an existing bike barrel and adapting it.Yes it will require a new housing for the top bit but designing one of them should not take long on a CAD program.

I'l get a spare gear bag soon and take it apart to see what's occurring inside and get on with it over summer and possibly as a uni project. If I can't get a bike one to fit I'll design my own.
