Would this have any performance gain or is it just "big noise"?

Came across some vidoes of people doing them on Yankie pickups, and the crazy thought of recycling a TB end with the butterfly and attaching a motor came to mind. (instead of paying a ridiculous price for exactly the same thing)

Thanks

ou mean one of those silencer by-pass efforts?

when i first read it i thought he ment a quick shift ignition cut used on bikes or sequential dog boxes

but an exhaust bypass as far as i know are used in america (and australia iirc) by some people to get around there strict law/police so they can have a silent restrictive standard silencer then a free flowing open (or anywhere between)

yea, I just found a couple of vids then did a bit of research. do you think there could be any possible power gains?

Gasses would be vented straight out, no mufflers or CAT to go through as they are placed after the flexi (well most are).

Thanks

I'm going to mock up some drawings at some point tomorrow and pass them onto my friend. He works in an engineering workshop so if I work it all out and get it drawn up he can make it all for me out of high temp stainless steel.

But it's mostly based onto a TB bufferfly idea.

Thanks

There are gains to be had. Obviously, to work at all, the valve has to offer a smaller impediment to exhaust flow than the silencer and cat. I'd guess it's easier to make a set up that works in a turbo application (turbos just need to dump exhaust gas as quickly as possible and are pretty much insensitive to pipe length, at least when on boost). Downsides may be getting busted and maybe the need for two maps -- one to pass emmisions with the cat and silencer taking the flow, one for catless and unsilenced flow.

I saw a post in the 500 section with a dual mode/bypass exhaust. You can see the rear muffler can be bypassed.

Everything I have read on the internet suggests most are electricaly actuated by a switch in the car or trigger from the ECU. I dont know if any are actuated on just preasure.

Are they just for sound or performance? Just for turbo cars or naturally aspirated aswell? I guess its mainly for sound.

I plan to get a stainless steel exhaust system when my stock one fails maybe somehting like the 500 one would be nice.

A more bonkers style

They are for performance gains at higher rpm, when there is more exhaust to shift.

AMV8 Vantage has them, as does the Ferrari 458, both NA cars.

You will loose a lot of torque though, and one thing the cento aint blessed with is torque.

Cheers
