I remember seeing a picture with someone with one. I need info on it. I know i need a sandwich plate and the part that holds the filter (dad says there is quite a few cars that have this part as standard so can get them easy)

I need it for my Turbo. there is about 2cm between the oil filter and turbine housing so to do a filter swap would involve unbolting the turbo! (wtf??)

Im guessing most the trouble is becuase the oil cooler plate brings the filter out a good 30mm

where can i get bits to set up a remote oil filter?
 
found it! allanhelen has a remote oil filter. now the strange thing is. I see a oil pipe going across the top of the engine but no return. the hose goes straight on... im wondering does the pipe then go to the oil cooler then back to the engine? can you run oil coolers "inline"?

been doing a bit of research. you can run coolers inline.

so i need a take off plate. remove the cooler sandwich plate. oil output goes through remote oil filter... out of the oil filter through oil cooler then back to engine.
this sounds great to me as it simplifys the hosing i was planning to do to move the oil cooler to the passenger side of the car.

Aye, that will work.

Stick the filter on the return though. If you every get anything puncture the oil cooler, the filter will save the engine from pieces of crap metal etc :)

you WILL want a thermostat though. I run one inline on my setup :) You can see it in the vid

you'll def need one. The oil will run far too cool and cause a lot of wear of the engine.

THey are not expensive. About £30-40 I think it cost. It's just the smallest stat, but is more than enough for this engine :)

true! ill see that my money says (or lack of) i was gonna run the setup as it is now for a bit (rap a cloth around oil cooler if things are to chilly)

been selling loads of my crap to try do all this stuff "propper" got lots of pipe work on the cooling system that need sorting to.

Good note is dads mate who works in a fabrication place next door to hes works said he will weld up any pipes as long as i get the alloy tube. :)

have to give you a go once its running!

Citroen 2CV have a baffle for their oil cooler for the winter, it is plastic and clips on, it makes an excellent frisbee as well, I wire lock them on in Nov or so... Otherwise you ankle biters would steal them.

In an earlier age I needed an oil cooler, and I fitted a temper gauge and a pressure gauge, as well as the pressure warning. The oil in the oil cooler tended to syphon back into the sump, and delay the pressure on start up after a weekend of no use.

yeh I dont think my sandwich plate has a thermostat in it (got hot after about 5mins running)
ill get one of them thermostats later on in the year. i read there not really needed unless its really cold out.

Even the thermostatic ones get hot as they always allow some oil to pass through to keep the cooler full of oil, if not you would end up with airated oil when it suddenly openes up which would do your engine no good at all.

It is the Clio williams filter that most people use it is tiny and has a hex on the top for a spanner, but the R5GT fits some but as with all the Snowflake VAD's you often can't fit even these with a sandwich plate.

Mine actually doesn't have a sandwich plate by the way, Kris was very close to the mark with his suggestion, My turbo oil feed is taken from the oil pressure switch feed and the filter and cooler from the filter housing. The extra couple of inches makes routing the braided oil lines a bit easier as the bend isn't as acute

I did think that. well i thought it would be dodgy having a couple of pints of freezing cold oil suddenly dumped into a hot engine when the thermostat opened :rolleyes: ill have to pull it off and see.

do you have a thermostat on yours?
how did you cap off the original oil filter?
what remote oil filter housing did you get?
im guessing your way is cheaper to?

the cooler is mounted higher than the sump so the oil drains back if it stayed completly closed when the stat opens you would have a sudden drop in oil pressure as the cooler filled starving the engine of oil and as it rushed in it would be like foam

Yes it is similar to the one Kris has but i have braided hoses and aeroquip couplings
how did you cap off the original oil filter?
its an empty oil filter (you can actually buy them)
what remote oil filter housing did you get?
I didn't buy it but it is a Mocal one
im guessing your way is cheaper to?

nope, oil flows through the filter. You can't block it off. BUT you don't need a filter in the casing as your filtering elsewhere, hence why i said to gut the insides. If you can buy a blank filter, do that, but oil flow must still go through it :)
