You don't say if yours is the 8 valve engine? We changed the belt on my boy's 2012 Punto 8 valve 1.4 in the late spring of this year with 42k miles on it. I think (but you'd be best to check) the Fiat recommendation is 5 years or 72k miles, whichever comes first. Searching around on the internet revealed some opinions that it should be changed sooner, one said at 4 years/48k miles? We were getting a little nervous as it had a slight whine which I thought was a tensioner/water pump bearing. We obtained a complete Gates kit which included tensioner and water pump. The old belt didn't look that bad, but very polished and rather hard/brittle feeling compared to the new one. The old water pump felt very slightly "gritty" when it's pulley was spun but not really bad and the tensioner felt smooth. So I think it would probably have gone on for another year - or would it? These engines, with the variator cam sprocket, are interference designs. So a broken/damaged belt has the potential to wreck the engine - we didn't want to take the chance. Of course, because we were changing the pump (and I would always do so) it allowed us to change the coolant at the same time and we, very carefully, examined the metal pipe which delivers coolant to the back end of the water pump and is well known to corrode as well as it's rubber seal leaking (where it fits the pump).

So I think the 4 years/48k miles works for us and we'll be changing it again in 4 years if he still owns it then - which I think is likely as it's prooving to be cheap to run, fairly easy for me to service and repair and really very reliable, which is important as he works shifts so public transport doesn't work for some of the shift times. Interestingly the slight whine can still be heard and it's not ancillaries, I've checked!

Re: Fiat Punto 1.4 2013 Petrol Cambelt

I was informed the same - 5 years or 72k.
Mine's only covered 22k on a 12 plate but was 5yrs old last year so had the belt and the water pump changed.

It depends how much of a gambler you are. I learned the hard way. An old Tipo we had was low mileage but 8 years old and no cambelt history. I decided to have it changed finally and it broke on the way to the garage that morning.

So now I change them as recommended by the manufacturer without fail.
