I use Maguiars No 7 followed by Autoglym extra Gloss protection followed by a good wax, its old fashionned but I like Turtle wax, keeps the wax protection for a long long time. works great on dark coloured cars, gives a very deep shine and the rain and crap just slide off

Try using microfibe cloths, maybe more expensive than an old T shirt but they are sooooo much better. Mask up any vinyl trim before you start and plan on taking the day to do the car properly. Wash it first using two bucket method and take your time.

Try taking a look at www.detailingworld.co.uk

I wouldnt use T cut for anything that I cared about

Hi Boostboy, I suppose this depends a little on what you want to do and the current condition of your paintwork. Everything mentioned here has merit.

G10 is pretty abbrasive and probably best saved for highly oxidised paints i.e. where a red has pinked out and gone matt.

The Megs 3 stage system includes a polish however it's only a chemical cleaner so best used on fairly clean and well maintained cars. I have this system myself although best of ditching stage 3 (wax) and getting something like Harley Wax or P21s wax which will be better.

I tend to use Autoglym Super Resin polish which is a mild polish and includes a light cut. If I'm polishing up a car which hasn't been polished for a while I'll use a colour restorer polish from the likes of Tesco or Wilkinson which are both cheap and effective and then follow up with something like Turtlewax, Harley Wax or Autoglym Super Resin Polish.

Some people are very anti T-cut but there is generally nothing wrong with it. I don't believe there is any mystic around car care products despite what the marketing teams and some people selling car care products would like to make you believe. Something like turtlewax original is still a good but underated polish/wax which is cheap. You won't find people selling this in boutique car care stores because it needs to shift in volume to make a decent profit.

To get back to your question. If asked by someone in the street what to use to clean, polish and protect their car I'd say go to Halfords and spent £20 buying these 3 Autoglym products in the 3 for 2 offer. Why because they are well established and proven products which balance ease of use, longevity with value for money while being readily available on the high street.

1. Autoglym Bodywork Conditioner - to clean the car with
2. Autoglym Super Resin Polish - to polish the car with
3. Autoglym Extra Glosss Protection - to add an extra layer of long lasting protection after the Super Resin Polish.

I hope this is useful to you.

totally agree, autoglym products have always been my fav as i feel they give by far the best result. I have started using a new polish from autoglym when being judged for show and shine, called ultra deep shine. the results are awesome.

Forgot about Ultra Deep Shine, yes it's very good but not the easiest to apply and remove.

Love the advert for "polycharger" in the link - marketing men at their best I reckon - buy a wax then buy an expensive magic potion to add to your wax to make it better. Why didn't I think of that!

speaking from experience??? :D

I have tried it and i am impressed too.. (not the silk pyjamas) Ultra deep shine didnt realise it was a one hit product and not supposed to be used with Extra Gloss Protection.. Saying that it should save me an hour and less rubbing in that case (y)

Give www.detailedobsession.co.uk a look, you email him ( his name is Gareth ) your car details ( colour/make/model ) and he will tell you what will bring the best shine to your car. Very friendly and informative, got a very deep shine on mine using a claybar, poorboys blue with carnauba, and collinite marque delegance. And beads brilliantly
Will post pics when i can find my camera cable

Megs Clay every 4 months, Autoglym Super resin Polish and finish with Poorboys Natty blue wax if your car is dark coloured or just the plain natty if it's lighter coloured, great results.

It shines it hurts eyes - after TurtleWax (it's 5€ here). Just needs an hour of slow work in shade. Still searching for nice alloys, but won't do any aftermarket work like skirts or wing - this car is simply beautiful as is. :)
