Car failed mot now they want 290 for wheel bearing and rear break pads and discs. Half way through the job call me want another 130 for seized rear caliper. Is this right as sounds a bit much to me. Cars only got 45k on the clock too

They will be more expensive than an independent garage/mechanic/mobile mechanic.
But you get your car fixed immediately rather than having to wait for an appointment and don't have to pay a mot retest fee.
I have not checked the component prices for your car but for a big tyre place the prices are not too bad for a big tyre place.

The extra price for rear caliper is likely because they cannot wind the piston back in to fit new pads-it does happen especially if the pads have worn very thin. The price for the rear caliper change is very reasonable.

So I think you are ok.

Just my opinion but I think they should check front wheel alignment after doing wheel bearing and may be they have priced that in already hope so. If they haven't you could ask them to check and adjust alignment for free as you have all the other stuff done.

To repeat it's not bad pricing.

Good luck

Jack

Thank you for your reply feeling a bit better about this now. From what was a £20 m.o.t to now £420 can be a bit of a sting at first

Yes it can!

If you are near Edinburgh , Jock can suggest some good small garages.

I suggest a yearly service to avoid having to pay more than necessary at short notice.
