Hi all,

I am looking to buy a Bravo T-Jet 150bhp.

However I've been reading on this forum about the M32 gearbox and it sounds to me it is nothing but trouble.

Should I avoid this car because of this gearbox?
It seems quite a costly repair.

Thank you for any advice.

I've had my T-jet almost 2 years now, 96k miles & had no issues with it bar selection cables sticking (fixed with some PTFE spray) and clutch replaced, that's not to say the box itself will definitely fail or definitely not fail, but the cars 10 years old so if anything was to go wrong I'm sure it would have by now

Take it a test drive, listen for any strange noises esp from gears, if anything isn't right walk away

Thank you for your reply, so not all M32 gearboxes are doomed for failure?

Also I read that the driveshaft and climate control are common problems.

Can anybody tell me how common these problems are?

If these 2 and the gearbox are all common, i'd be quite put off from buying one.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,
The M32 gearbox problems seem to be releated to specific makes or batches of bearings used an the oil level in some gearboxes. It's used in thousands of cars of different makes and if it was tahat bad it would have been withdrawn. Remember tha people generally only post to forums when they have issues, not when the car is running OK. Check prospective cars for noises and movement of the gearlever under braking and acceration.
If you are worried about the gearbox, treat it to a oil change when you buy the car. Make sure the oil level is done by volume added.

Thank you for the reply's.

I'll have to think about it.

My regular garage tells me they have fixed quite a few of these gearboxes and that it isn't cheap.

Whilst making a test drive, what should I look for to see if the gearbox will be giving problems soon or not?

On one of the thread's here and a few others on the internet the cause of the M32 gearbox failure has a definitive reason. Poor Oil feed to 5th and 6th gear bearings. Most of the failure's have been on remapped cars pushing tons more torque than standard. Excessive accelerating in 5th and 6th gear causes the bearing to load and heat up, but due to the very poor oil feed system this can lead to the bearings overheating and starting to wear. However you will be able to fix the problem before the gearbox breaks, as long as you realise the bearing is giving in before it breaks. Bearings are quite cheap to replace, and then you'd just have to pay the standard labour. Doesn't have to be an expensive experience as long as you take care of your car.

I personally haven't seen or heard anyone with driveshaft problems, so I think that's something you don't have to worry about.

Yup, the climate control is apparently quite crappy, I just have the standard aircon model and it works quite decently.

Thank you for the help people.

I'm gonna look at a car that has done 147.095 kilometers.
Full service history appears to be present.

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know we bought a Bravo 1.4 T-jet with 120HP.
Its a brilliant car, I sadly now drive my girlfriends former GP 1.2 8V. :p
