Hi Chaps, there's plenty of post's for noise/squealing etc which all mostly point to brakes, my noise is slightly different, so before I remortgage for a Fiat Dealer to diagnose I thought I'd try the Oracle for Fiat problem's.

Car: Fiat Bravo 2007 Active 1.9 MJet. 84k
Symptom: Loud squealing noise from front right of car once warmed up. Goes off when braking or turning, so only happens when driving in a straight line, from 0-70mph. Some times intermittent, but now more than not. I've had the brakes checked out (stripped down, cleaned, greased put back together) nothing found.

Supporting Fact's: Timing/Aux/Alt Belt & brakes/Discs/Pads changed at 77k
Had a hand wash & the right side wheel had loads of steam coming off it compared to the left & rear. washer guy pointed to it as though there was a problem, which lead to thinking it was brake related.

Recorded the noise as an MP3 (it's zipped as can't post audio,G'teed Virus free) Any help in pinning this down is greatly appreciated.

Is the noise there when the car is moving and still there when stationary?

I have the same sort of noise that i just put down to the brakes or rear brakes as i have an issue with my handbrake so presumed it was related.

I have had a problem like this in the past which was put down to a sticky brake piston that often cleared itself after pumping the brakes a few time before setting off this also cures my current issue as well.

Most probs a sticky piston i would say. i currently have the exact same issue on one of my rear brake calipers. As i said pumping the breaks a few times seems to release it. at least until you get it fixed.

Sheck the brushes on your caliper, maybe even replace the caliper. That was my problem. Only when moving, never when breaking... never when I'm going fast just cruising. I just had my brushes replaced.. boom sorted. Sounds possibly like your problem too. also see if the sound changed if you turn the wheel right left right left (i.e do quick zig zags on the road), if the sound reacts to that... then its the caliper 95% sure.

Pads had seized in the caliper, so after setting them right haven't had it since. So likely if I do, it is the caliper/piston sticking...cheers Chaps.

HI how did you know it was the pads that had siezed and not the piston. I have never heard of that before so curious to see if thats whats wrong with mine?
Also what did you do to sort?

Good point, I think it was the piston/caliper I removed the wheel, poked the pads/caliper with a large flat blade screwdriver & sprayed brake cleaner over everything. Squealing has gone, so I'm happy. If it comes back, then Likely I have the same issue as you.

Hi Mate,

I had the same very problem with my Fiat Bravo 2007, I listened to your audio which you uploaded and mines sounds totally the same..

Did you fix this problem ? And could you please provide some information the problem was? Would really appreciate it

Thanks

Im exactly the same. A helping hand would be much appreciated

Mines is going in for a repair 2morrow the garage says its rear brake pads which are worn out the squealing is telling us we need new ones. If the sound disappears after the pads will let you know.

However it did sound like it was coming from the front...
