I was looking at the audi A3's but the prices start pretty much at the high end of the bravos, around 16k so I scrapped that, plus the bravo is such a gorgeous car.

Not looking to buy brand new, thats financial suicide, stupid off the court price drop.

Now, ultimately only I can make the choice but I just I guess wanted some advice from better knowledged people and maybe youve been in the same thought situation as me.

It looks like there is about 4/5k difference in price between the two.

Working it out at 1.19 a litre of diesel/petrol (they're even at the moment round here), works out at around £460 per 10000miles. If I've worked it out right, 40mpg @ £182 miles and £136 @ 30mpg for 1000miles, not quite sure what mpg the 2.0 averages but I'd imagine its probably more around the 45 mark? I just know my Tjet with a heavy boot was about 30mpg over a months usage heh. Now that works out at about 460 a year.

Hopefully I'll have the car for around 5 years or so, I want it to last, perhaps even longer but in 5years I do plan on having my career fixed.. if I dont, what a waste of time!

So 460 x 5 = 2300 more in fuel over that time period.

Performance wise, there isnt alot in it on paper. 0.3sec 0-60 and 1mph top speed. I know alot of the T-jets have been coming out at sometimes 30bhp higher than the quoted amount, I was wondering if the 2.0ls were the same?

Now, if I buy the T-jet, I know they don't hold their value as much as the diesels but over the 5 year time, what would the price drop roughly be for each one when the time comes to part ways?

Is having a later model really worth it purely for the warranty cover, I was thinking perhaps get a model thats 58 registered (I understand the 2.0s arent as old) so it'll last me at least a year on warranty.

If I went for an even older version, perhaps an 07 sport, the price would be really low and it'd nullify the fuel costs at least, around 7.5k for an 07 sport + 2300 = 9.8k

I mean, with all those numbers above.. I look at the 2.0l and the best price I've found for what I want (sport/climate control and maybe sunroof just for the fluff) is 15.k it just seems like wasted money rather than a sound long term investment.

I dont mean for this to be a tjet vs mjet thread lol, a financial decision on the whole.

Side question, whats the engine roar of the 2.0 like, the 1.4 sounds amazing I was wondering if the diesel was typically tank sounding?

In the end, I'd like Bravo Sport in either marenello red or white with climate control!

If it's a financial question then there is no question - the 2.0 is much more expensive as you know. But if you have that money - go for it, you can't be wrong. The Tjet's MPG is pretty bad.

The T-Jet sounds much better though, not even the hardcore Mjet lovers around can argue with that :D

Oh, and the Skydome is awesome!

I think writing it all down at early hours of the morning and re-reading it today has made it a little easier.

I reckon the best choice is probably a T-jet 1.4 at the latest year for around 7.5-8.5k (including tax and such).

Now, if anyone knows of any going for that price.. holla!

Also, why are the 18inch alloys so ugly compared to the 17s?

8-9k should get you a 2008 150 tjet sport with under 20k on the clock, try to get one with 5 yrs warranty, even it is slightly more expensive, it worth it on the long run!!!

Man, reading your original post, if I had to do all that research and maths prior to making a purchase, I'd go down to Halfords and buy a pushbike. That sort of dissection would detract from any purchase I made.

I buy based on looks, driving experience, my enthusiasm/passion for the car, end of. He who buys with his head lives a very boring life..........................

Some words of wisdom.

Buy in haste repent at leisure.

Do all the research you can before you even go looking at the cars, believe me I was shocked at how little those who sell cars know about what they are selling, I certainly knew more than every salesman I saw before buying my 165 last September.

I didnt realise there were petrol ones with 5yr warranty, I thought it was just the mjets.. god knows why!

I just got a little bit of money from a house sale so I wanna make the best of it really so thats why all the thinkings been done and tbh, lead a boring life.. with a 1.4 tjet sport, I dont think so ;)

CB, that isn't difficult! Every time I go into a dealership or independent the sales people don't have a clue what they are talking about, all they know is what targets they have to achieve in order to secure this months wage.

I consider myself a proper petrol head and am fully informed and read about everything to do with cars and the motoring industry, but, if I like something I buy it, simples.......

You know about the negative press/reviews FIAT and Alfa get but I've always owned them, who cares? If the styling is nice and it goes well I couldn't give a fig. Leave the maths to the bean counters, there's no time to worry about such things, life is short, why worry, you're a long time dead so do as you please while you're alive....................

Bugger the research. Do you like the car? Then buy it. Don't worry about residuals, running costs and the like. Every car costs money to run and every car loses money, we a drivers no accountants, chill out man!

Also, Toejam, isn't there a series of porn films that go by the same title?

I've got the T-Jet 150 Sport and at times I wish I had went for the M-Jet purely because of the amount of petrol it goes through. The MPG of the T-jet sucks, and factor that against the fact that the price of diesel now matches that of petrol (it was still more expensive when I bought the car), and the M-Jet does look more attractive for economy.

The M-Jet is also easier to chip, etc...

But I still love my T-Jet even if I am constantly skint :D

I'll try and give some real world advice even if part of it is 2nd hand.

My 1.9 Mjet 150 does a 51-52mpg going by the trip computer. The 165 should do better mpg even with the added horses. My friend recently bought a 1.4 150 Tjet and reckons he's getting nearer 33mpg.

My Mjet cost 10,288 under a year old in Dynamic trim with esp and parking sensors.

My friends Tjet in Active trim cost 7,500 with a smidge of the 3 year warranty left.

Does the Mjet sound like a tank. Yeah, pretty much.

I've been looking at the Arnold Clark website and here are a few things I've found -

2009 (09) Fiat Bravo Sport Multijet 165 £10,988
11268 miles - CO2 139g/km - Red - Diesel
ABS, PAS, Radio/CD Player, Air Conditioning, Airbags, Alloys, Balance of 3 Year Warranty, Body Coloured Bumpers

2009 (59) Fiat Bravo 1.4 T-Jet Sport 150 £11,488
10125 miles - 39.8mpg - CO2 167g/km - Silver - Petrol
Cruise Control, 5 Star Euro NCAP Safety Rating, 17" Alloys, Electric Windows, Remote Locking, Electric Mirrors

Looking at your original post these seem to be a good bit cheaper than what you had originally thought. The good thing about Arnold Clark is that even if the car you want is in a dealership 400 miles away, they will drive it to your local dealership for you to pick up.

You may find that you'll have to compromise on your specifications but good news is that there seems to be a fair few Maranello Reds kicking about. Not nearly as many whites though. The climate control may be tricky as well. To be honest, ours has CC and it's not so wonderful that I wouldn't now have gone for the air conditioning without any regrets.

Might be a bit of wiggle room on price but it was tough work just getting £200 off mine so wouldn't rely too much on that route.

Of the two above it's a bit of a no brainer in terms of economy as the MJ is cheaper to buy and will give you loads more mpg.

I don't understand you mate!! Your entire post was about projected costs of petrol/diesel consumptions, yet you want to buy the 150tjet or mjet or the 165mjet. How about the 120bhp versions of both engines?? Or even the 1.6 mjet?? If you are so concerned about economy you should forget the high bhp versions!!

Sorry I mean really between the ones with more ponies, basically trying to work out what I can get which is the best for the price. I'd prefer the petrol so if I can get one cheap enough that the running costs end up cheaper than buying a multijet with equal power.. then I'd rather do that for sheer enjoyment of the car.

Thanks doolahrock, I had a look round it and they don't have any Tjets in red although last night I took a liking to the maserati blue but I prefer the inside stitching of the red sports.

I'm set that it must be the sport and must have climate control now though, gunna have the car for quite a few years and I know I'll just pick at it if its not exactly what I want.

On the plus side, I didnt know about arnold clarke website, been using auto trader, piston heads, motor point and ronskinnerandsons

Dont bank on 51-52mpg more like 47-48 with mixed driving which still isnt too bad (I drive like a granny most of the time ;-))

Not when your in it!

I got mine(brand new 165 Sport in Maranello Red) for £12400 (59 reg) last September from Perrys so look about you may get them even cheaper than from Arnold Shark.
