Does anyone know how far a exhaust is aloud to stick out the back of the car, my cherry bomb is sticking out the back of my punto about 8 or so inches my mate said that someone could trip over it and i could get done but i think that he is over reacting a bit

WTF!!! 8 inches!!!! Thats gotta look awfull!!! Yeh there is some kind of law that sez you have to sheild things that get hot that stick out the side of the car if they are over a certain age i believe and to cover anythign else that kinda sticks out too

By the sounds of it, it wouldn't pass a MOT is it could burn someone brushing past your car.

it was a garage in glasgow that fitted it, you would think that they would fit it lagally to cover they're ass aswell ,and before you say (i cant take it back to them cos it was the last owner that had it fitted) but all is not lost cos the middle section is made of that mesh tube stuff so i can take that off and put a solid piece of pipe on instead ...also i dont have any pics yet but i will soon once i wash the car and borrow ma maws digital camera

no you cant im afraid,that will be the flexi pipe your talking about? if so its there to stop the exhaust fracturing through engine movement

id get that sorted asap, sticking out 8 inches!!

I think i have to look at it some more and brain storm ...maybe trim the tailpipe a few inches or something cos that the only bit thats sticking out ...i searched the web but cant find out what the written law is:bang: think i'll pop into kwik fit and ask them

I thought the exhaust is not allowed to protrude more than the rear of the car, therefore the rear bumper. If some one drives into the back of you the bumper will take the impact, not anything else.

I wouldn't worry about it not being legal because of it sticking it... it's a cherrybomb FFS

... with the exception of tow bars, for obvious reasons!... im not 100% sure on the law, but im sure it cant be further than the bumper!
