Am an internet radio fan. When I saw the Fiat had Bluetooth and USB port, I wondered if I could set it up to play internet radio from my jail broken Iphone thru the Bose system. BMW and Mini have this capability already. I bought the Dension Internet Radio adapter which about the size of a USB stick, has a bluetooth dongle and tricks the Fiat into thinking you are playing MP3's from a USB stick.
But in the background, it uses the Bluetooth connection to your iPhone to get to the internet and the Dension adaptor also links and downloads your internet radio station presets that you set up on the RadioTime website. When all goes well, you can use your steering wheel controls to skip thru your internet stations like you skip thru songs on your Ipod playlist.
Basically, it works well 75% of the time. However, I have also paired my iphone 3GS (which has Internet Tethering) to the car to handle cell phone calls. There is no problem if, when I start the car, the Fiat makes the 1st bluetooth connection and the Dension connects via bluetooth afterwards. However, if Dension connects first then problems occur.
Somehow, the Fiat will connect via bluetooth and Dension will lose it's bluetooth connection. Once the bluetooth connection is lost, the Dension goes into a loop and keeps saying "waiting for internet connection". The only way I've found to "fix" it, is to reach into the glove box, unplug the Dension from the USB port, wait 15 seconds, and plug it back in (basically, re-boot the Dension stick).
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, do you have a better solution?
