Mobile site online ... finally!

Posted 11-01-2011 at 20:38 by ben

After getting years of grief from Helz (bless her) - I've finally got around to getting a fully functional mobile skin on the site.

It will kick in automatically if you are on a mobile device, and offers almost all of the main functionality of the full version - just heavily cut down.

There might be issues - so as always, do check it out and let me know

I'll be playing around with it on my BB to see if anything needs changing, but it seems to have everything there for now.

I read there might be an issue with linked images (due to the auto resizer) - so if you come across a page which has got stuffed due to that, let me know..

Nah - it searches the "Browser code" for mobile strings, then switches based on that.

I'll look at moving it to an entirely separate domain, that way you can force mobile if you wish.

Does it have to go to the mobile site everytime? It will annoy me having to click 'full site' everytime :P or is this a setting on my phone?

Ok so I can turn mobile sites off on my phone, but the BBC iplayer doesn't work. Can the site be changed so if a user clicks full site it stays that way until they click mobile site?
    thanks

    Ok, it will now:

    1) First time you visit, if browsing with a mobile device, switch you to the mobile skin.
    2) If you don't like it, in the top header menu, click "PC Mode" - it will now always use this unless...
    3) You visit http://m.fiatforum.com, which will force back the mobile mode

Unread threads now in bold, read posts non-bolded.

Easier to see if something new has been posted

On my HTC Desire the text comes up as a low resolution, needs zooming in quite a bit to make it visable. and it wont let me chose between the full site which it can handle perfectly well.

    but otherwise excellent

    russ

e.g. i type in www.fia.... and it still loads the mobile site. even after clicking the link. I have also disabled my devices option to automatically load a mobile version
