General The "well travelled" Barchetta

Haven't posted in this for 2 years ,doesn't mean I've been idle.

Got back yesterday in the small hours from by biggest trip ever in the

Barchetta .

44 days away ,2 days in France ,then 6 weeks in Italy ,going to just about

as many car ,bike ,even truck racing events as I could find using Google

before I set off.

5741 miles covered ,nothing fell off but the rear suspension needs attention after not fit for purpose Italian roads have done there worst.

DSC02625.JPG

Random fun pic.

I will add some more detail and a pic or 2 from each event I went to.

I just uploaded a few but my useless laptop /internet connection failed and I lost the whole post....

First stop the Le Mans museum ,been to the 24 hours ,on this weekend if you hadn't noticed ,3 times ,never went into the museum which was much bigger
and better and with a lot more cars on display than expected.

First pic ,an early Ferrari in the Barchetta style .

Next pic ,an Alfa 105 coupe ,on the road of the Tour Auto de France.

Next after entering Italy via the very expensive route of the Tunnel de Frejus after a couple of days rest .I drove down to Umbria and the Coppa Della Perugina ,starts each day in Perugia and tours around the locality.

First 2 are a couple of special FIATS on the Coppa ,just arriving at Castel Titignano for lunch.

I got hopelessly lost finding this location but still got there before the participants ,after a bit of fun driving in the hills of Umbria.

Next day I went a little further south ,to almost Rome where The Paulo Taruffi circuit is AKA Vallelunga.

A Lamborghini Huracan and a Ferrari.

It's not all cars.
When I go to Italy ,I am lucky enough to get free accommodation at a house

near Lucca my sister owns , so visiting that city is always nice to do.

It has lots of history but is way less touristy than nearby Pisa, Florence or Siena.

The next weekend drove up to less well known circuit near Brescia ,at Franciacorta ,where Euro Nascar was racing and there's a

racecar workshop where that Integrale sits.

no idea if it's ex works or just a replica rally car.

I could have gone to Franciacorta on the Sunday as well but I fancied going to something else ,especially when I stumbled across the following when Googling stuff before leaving home.

The Italian historic hillclimb championship round starting at Scarperia ,a stone's throw from entrance to Mugello circuit ,goes up the hill to Giogo ,about 800 metre up apparently.
To save my weary legs I found a corner near the startline ,far enough away for them to get a bit of speed up.

Wednesday the next week ,it's back to Brescia again ,as it's Mille Miglia start day.
I cannot emphasise enough how good this event is.

Over 400 1927-1957 cars ,many of them priceless and some unique.

the whole of Italy embraces it.

Looks like you picked up a new set of red wheels along the way. Unusual design. What make are they?

They are Alfa Romeo wheels ,I believe off a 155 .

bought off Ebay in a bit of a state and whilst having a refurb chose Post box red

to powder coat them in.

I had 2 on the back since 2016 but the other 2 were fitted late last year

when 2 more new tyres were needed.

I still have more pics to post for this trip.

2 days after watching the Mille Miglia ,I travelled the 200 miles to Turin for the

museums there ,including the new FIAT place that there was a thread about recently.

I learnt that the 600 predated the 500 by 2 years ,never knew that before.

I then went to the Musee Nazionale Auto ,which is all of 1 mile down the main

road from the FIAT place.

I'd been to it before ,in 2013 .

There was a display of Marcello Gandini's greatest designs.

The 3rd pic is the Bertone Runabout which became the X1-9 eventually.

Forgot about this pic.

A child's Barchetta in the area where cars have been "converted" into white goods.

Weird.

The next weekend I drove in the other direction to the east coast and

Misano World circuit near Rimini, for the European Truck racing championship round.

The weather was wet ,which made the first race a little dull ,the second dry race was much better.

There was 2 races for cars ,the same field in both ,but I counted 46 cars started the first one.

The display of decorated trucks in the paddock was impressive too.

The next weekend was Mugello Moto GP Italy ,I nearly didn't go because DHL

tried to deliver the ticket on the wrong day to the Italy house ,then couldn't

find it when I went to collect from the local service point ,at a petrol station,

all of 2 miles away.

Turns out it could have been there all the time as it was collected nearly a week later.

Pics are bit small as lense just doesn't extend any further.

Part of the video on the big screen was GP riders holding up signs saying

"Don't set off flares".....didn't really work did it.

I saw a person let off a yellow smoker ,in the Ducati stand....

The chap in the white T shirt is holding a chain saw ,sans chain but with an airhorn trumpet instead of an exhaust pipe for enhanced noise...LOL...:D

4th pic is Danillo Petrucci ,winner of the Moto GP class ,small burn out with the marshals.

Crowd was happy ,Italian won ,Marc Marquez beaten ,also winner in Moto 3 was Italian too.

Final weekend was the trip to see the Modena Cento Ore ,hundred hours ,to save translating.

It started in Rimini ,they went to Misano for a night race ,then Imola ,then Mugello on Friday and after that drove to the west coast and the resort of
Forte Dei Marmi ,where they gathered in Palazzo Marconi from about 6pm on.

Relatively short and easy drive for me to this ,the twisty roads on the SR439
not too shabby either.

The 250 GT SWB was also described in the entry as a SEFAC ,which makes t even more desirable ,as 1 of 20 cars created in 1961.
Didn't stop driver from giving it full death and damaging both front wings.

More on the Stratos in a bit.

The Daytona is a Competizione model.

The red car is a 212 and is just the business.

And the day after the cars were driven from Forte Dei Marmi up to Modena and

came even closer to my Italian base as they used the Passo dell Abetone from

Bagni Di Lucca north bound for quite a few KMs.

I just found a decent vantage point in middle of nowhere ,sat on a corner by a bridge and received strange looks from people passing wondering why a bloke is sitting there ,holding a camera.

The grey Alfa was chasing /having fun with some bikers ,the road seemed to be a favourite for bikes to go out for a bit of Saturday fun.
