We have been considering a Barchetta for a while now and having looked at several I have a question.
Is the engine a single spark version of the Alfa Twin Spark engine? If Not what else does it get used in.

No, the Bravo is not VVT hence only 115bhp.

The 1.8 in the b was originally in the Coupe, before they upped the anti to the 2.0 16v. I am not sure, but I don't think the 1.8 Coupe was ever sold in significant numbers in the UK, if at all (has anyone seen or had one?)

The engine was then used from the launch of the b in late '94, and then in '99/'00 they launched the Punto HGT with it (not sure if the HGT was launched in '99 along with the rest of the range or a year later - never seen a '99 one).

The variator is not the only thing that is different.

I was being sarchastic anyway, but still its a shame.

Just because it doesn't have a variiator and variable inlet doesn't mean you can't extract a lot of power from the Bravo engine. It is a very good engine to start with. How much power do you want to have?

does n e 1 know whether a 2.0 litre coupe turbo engine would fit in a barchetta??:D

Yes it would I am sure that Angeltuning can tell you about it as they are doing something like this right now. And so would the Dedra Turbo, which is well suited because of the visco coupling.

That would be interesting... but the coupe engine is a 5cyl jobbie... there is F*** all room under the bonnet of a barchetta

Anything can be done. But I wouldn't want a 5 cylinder engine in it because it is too heavy. Still there are plenty of 4 cylinder engines out of the Coupe.

the bravo/brava/barchetta/coupe engines;-
1.6 started life as a 1.1 and 1.3 in the 128 saloon/coupe with sohc head.
1.8 is based on the 8 valve twincam which started life in the 124.
2.0 16 v uses the 8 valve twincam block with modified oil galleries for the 16v head.so a 2.0 16v turbo engine will fit a bravo or barchetta.:)

Ah yes... I forgot there was a 16v turbo too... Maybe I could do a 1.3 downgrade and get cheaper insurance? lol
