Please, please can some one tell me how to get the fascia off so i can remove my radio? Everytime I hit a bump it turns off, I would like to fit a multichanger too. It's driving me nuts but I don't want to break anything. I don't seem able to take the unit out without removing the fascia, I've checked the other posts and my B seems different?

Thanks
:bang:

hi just new on this site lost my fiat scudo 2006 keys and wonder if i can drill the lock and do the screwdriver thing to get it to work or is there a immobiliser that will prevent it starting if so, any suggestions ??many thanks dave:bang::

On mine there were two thin rubber strips sitting vertically on either side of the stereo. Removing these showed slots which I needed to put some thin flat plate into to release the stereo.

I understand others may have the two small holes either side, in which case the removal keys from Halfords may be of help?

If you have the Fiat all in one unit then you need the Fiat keys, if you have a new style then you need to remove the stereo 1st.

You should have two silver long keys that fit down the side of the radio. Slot them in and pull your radio out, then you should be able to get to wires.

2005, which make of stereo? the Barchetta Lexikon lists a few variations [babel fish translation here.]

The earlier ones as stated have two rubber strips to remove which reveal where you can put the Fiat removal tools in, as can be seen here and the side view here although if like me you had your original radio repaired, the nice people at the repair shop removed the metal surround, so when swapping the radio [for another original] a few minutes of head scratching ensued , thinking is ridiculous, all I had to do was push the radio out of the dashboard from behind!

I don't think it will be that simple, but it's worth trying.

Thanks for all the replies, it sems it should slide out past the fascia (but it doesn't) but force and brute strehgth (the missus did it!0 wins the day. Had to ease out the plastic retaining stud/screws.
Thanks again.(y)

BTW what a fantastic day for driving a B. Went to work at 5am with the top down, would have been fine if I'd taken my time but how can you? Looked like I'd been plugged into the mains.

Hi,

im trying to remove the original radio from my B to install an aftermarket one.

i showed it to 3 technicians and noone seemed to know how to remove it.

i used the U shaped key thing but these dont really fit in the wholes (the two holes on each side under the vertical rubber strips). i then had the technician insert some metal sticks into the holes and push but the radio still didnt pop out.

any idea how to remove it? i dont want to break anything, its really hard to find parts for my B here in Dubai. and i certainly dont want to damage the original radio:)

if anyone has the service manual PDF, that would be great, im sure there will be some instructions on how to remove the radio.

thanks in advance.

Hi Youzbaki.

Service manual doesn't show much I'm afraid.

Look at the information on Zem's post. especially here.

Full service manual is available here.

If you have any problems downloading it drop me a pm with your address and I'll be happy to send it over to you on CD.

Ok, the gap between the two clips is just over 20mm. You need to press down the part ringed by inserting a strip of metal in order to get the stereo free:

I snipped a wire coathanger in half and used the two halves to poke into the pair of holes on each side of the Grundig radio in my '98 B. It took quite a lot of poking, tugging and swearing but I eventually got it out.

I used the same method - works a treat.

I'd like to replace the head-unit, but the original just looks so right in the B that I can't bring myself to ditch it.

I've got a set of 'U' shaped stereo release tools that seem to work okay on my 98 reg Grundig radio. They came with an old Mazda 323 that i used to own, might be worth getting a cheap set or as suggested using a strong wire coat hanger.

The only problem I've got is the interference that occurs when the engine is running. Seems to have developed recently and i can't seem to source the problem. The radio works fine when the engine is off, so i guess it's a grounding problem. I've checked both ends of the aerial cable and all seems fine.

I'm not really sure where to start?

Any suggestions......

Ta
B
