Can anyone tell me how I do this (is there a guide with pics?), and what I should use to clean it? I doubt mine has ever been cleaned, but I don't know where to start.

I have the later model engine, but I'm sure I could work from a guide based on the standard one.

Thanks guys!

You remove the black plastic air intake pipe and you will see the throttle body butterfly valve.

Halfords do carb cleaner or something like that for getting shot or deposits.

You might consider buying a tooth brush to scrub a bit. Whatever happens don't drop anything into the engine!

While you are there try cleaning the idle valve, checking the throttle opens smoothly and finally cleaning the mass air sensor.

Sounds pretty easy :)

was jsut wondering how to get the mesh thing off the throttle body, any particular method or just pull it off?

I also wondered this. I reckon you have to break it to get it off.
Why have it when you have a separate air filter? It will restrict flow into the engine.

I certainly wouldn't want to break it off. It's obviously designed to stop large, engine-ruining debris getting in. It's probably does not restrict air flow by any measurable amount either.

No!!!There is a ring inside the throtle body holding it .You remove it and the mesh can be taken out.I clean mine only with a carb cleaner spray.

Use pointy nose plyers or a thin flathead to remove the circlip then the mesh lifts out.

Bottom right:

The only way to clean the TB properly is to remove it, cleaning it in situ is a bodge.

Could somebody put together a 'guide' to cleaning the Throttle Body?
Do you have to take It apart like you have Richie?

I'd love a guide too, as taking it apart is really the best thing to do. I'm a little too nervous to do it myself :)

So, anyone got the time to do it and take a few photos? Can't be more than a couple of hours work?

Tricky one this as there are at least two different throttle bodies out there. I'd also like to give mine a thorough clean but feel a bit apprehensive. Can anyone who has done it confirm if its a one spanner or a five spanner job?
