31 mpg is a bit weedy .. but it's brand new so it will be a lot tight.

Just run the beast in gently but using a variety of throttle and revs... increasing the revs you let the engine wander up to as the mileage increases. Just don't bog it down low revs in a high gear and a lot of throttle.

In the 1.4 Multiair that I sold early this year, I always used Shell V-Power 99 octane. This has cleaning additives to benefit the engine's fuel system, and apparently most modern engines are optimised for higher octane fuels to get the best emissions results. I use the Shell app on my phone to get rewards that reduce the financial impact of the more expensive fuel.
I used to get mid-30s mpg in local running (not in queuing traffic) and 44 mpg on a long run at motorway/a-road speeds.
