FYI TomTom have confirmed that there is a current map update issue with uConnect 5 units.

They say:

"Thanks for your patience - I have just heard back from the second line technical team. They have taken a look into this case and have let me know that the update issue you are facing is an ongoing issue with some UConnect devices.

Unfortunately no fix has been released yet as this is a new problem, however I will keep this case on research status and keep checking for updates. As soon as I hear of a solution, I will contact you immediately by email.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused so far - we appreciate your patience & understanding."

The map version I was trying to update to was the lattest 1006.xxxx (April/May) which consistently failed on step 25 with a server error.

On trying again their servers then offered Ver.1005.8799 January map update so it look like they withdrew the 1006.xxxx version.

Is this recent because I’ve just downloaded the map then gone into the car and left it happily uploading to the car. Then come back and it says error and now nav system won’t work. Radio only !!

I found my problem/issue on the 7th/8th of May so yes I guess recent. Last time I updated was Dec 2017.

Nope won’t even load the memory stick up now, just keeps rebooting. I’ll take it to the dealers and see if they can wreck it any further haha

So many people have had their built-in sat nav screw up when it has been updated that I'm not going to touch mine. When the maps get too old to be useful, I'll just start using Google maps on my phone.

I thought I had bricked my system as well. I normally go for a 40+ minute drive while the system slowly and painfully updates from the USB stick. This last time I decided to just leave the ignition on and engine not running. Little did I know that the car automatically turns the ignition off itself after a period of time. When I went to check on progress the ignition was off as was the uConnect. Starting the uConnect resulted in "No Maps Installed". I think I was lucky.

In the future I'm going to:

o prepare two USB sticks for update (probably the most crucial/critical required step!)
o take image of prepped USB stick before installing maps to it
o take image of USB stick after installing maps to it

As mentioned the system prepped USB stick is key and as soon as you start to update from the USB stick the system basically invalidates it. I assume it does this to stop maps being shared between systems.

May just help recovering from bricked system.

It's not uConnect, but my GO 520 Wireless Tom Tom "bricked" itself during an update last week. After various attempts to revive it I'm now waiting for a returns number so they can re-flash the firmware. Looks like they have had a bug in an update that affects some 5 series units.

Robert G8RPI.

Well returning a bricked uConnect to TomTom is not going to be easy and I'm not sure they could un-brick one? Just hope TomTom would pay/refund Fiat dealer charges when out of warranty.

Hellooo..! I realise I’m almost six years late to this party, but I’ve lost my map base in recent software update, so I can’t now use sat nav.

When I’ve gone onto my ‘TomTom Home’ app on laptop I can see the Europe/UK mapbase there, but it won’t let me put it on USB as it says ‘Not enough free space on your Uconnect system, your files will not be copied to your USB. Please contact Fiat Customer Support’.

I have emailed Fiat Customer Support and received not so much as an acknowledgement.

I see above some of you got engagement with TomTom on the issue but I can’t see how or where to contact them. Has anyone else had this same issue and resolved or able to point me at a helpful source of help please?

Many thanks, Amanda
