Technical 500X - Failures Fixed Under Warranty

Failure: Engine Mount

Model: 500X 1.4 Multiair Manual

Reg Year: 2016

Mileage 20300

Details: Knocking noise - comes and goes sounds like coming from rear sometimes. Diagnosed as faulty engine mount replaced under warranty.

Fault: Rubber Boot release housing loose

Model: 1.6 Multijet Cross Plus

Reg. Year: 2015

Mileage: 21000

Other: Fault was present when car was bought (used). Repaired under warranty at Research Nuneaton Main Dealer. Seems to be a common issue on earlier cars. I'm told there has been a part revision/update to resolve.

Fault: Battery failure(s)

Model: Multiair 1.4T Lounge

Year : 2017

Mileage : 500 (!!)

Notes: Fiat original battery failed 3 weeks ago, Arnold Clark replaced 2 weeks ago but with Exide batttery (non-Fiat), failed again today so had Fiat mobile support van out, took it to Fiat Stoneacre Liverpool for warranty fix but wouldn't look at it due to non-original battery, so dropped at AC Liverpool (nearby) for them to check tomorrow. Will be kicking their arses for disrupting our Fiat warranty but if it's a 3 week wait from Italy there's maybe some excuse.

1.4 Multiair seems to use smaller battery than all the others except 1.3 Diesel (60 AH not 70), but still a massive heavy unit.

Mine was replaced at 13 months from new. I had to wait a couple of weeks for one from Italy. Because of warranty told I had to wait for original battery to come.

I phoned around this morning and found that Arnold Clark in Ashton had one on the shelf, and Stoneacre Liverpool had them as well. I suppose the smaller battery is less common so fewer problems overall compared to the bigger one used by most cars, hence availability issues?

Anyway Arnold Clark workshop found nothing with their checks so they've ordered a new genuine battery that should be fitted tomorrow and they've booked it in at Stoneacre Fiat 1/2 mile down the road for them to have a good dig checkover and hopefully find something wrong with the car.

I don't know if cars with the keyless ignition etc have more things active to potentially drain the battery? In any cases it's odd that both batteries have completely failed quite suddenly (drive quite normally, park up, come back later, now no juice at all), especially since it's a biggish Stop-Start unit. Maybe these are able to stand a long slow drain to a low voltage without complaining (or the onboard condition monitor complaining) and after that they suddenly expire?

Yep, same model, same problem, same fix

Failure: A/C leak on seal between hose and compressor. Picked up on service by tech at fiat garage by checking for uv dye.

Model: 500x cross 1.4 multiair.

Reg year: 2016

Mileage:24k

Fixed under warranty, part ordered from Italy.

Yep I now have this.

Failure: Noisy / Creaking Engine Mount (cam belt end of block to O/S wing rail)
Model: 500X 1.4 MultiAir
Reg. Year: 2015
Mileage: 14,500
Details: Had been occasionally hearing creaking/soft knocking noise on driver's side. Only occurring with lateral/transverse loading and front end movement.
Other: Finally located/diagnosed by me pushing the engine side to side.

Booked in for new mount on Monday, day before leaving in the car for Italy! (Ouch).

I forgot to do mine.

Failure: Boot release
Model: 500X 2.0 Mjd AT9 Cross
Reg. Year: 2016
Mileage: 3,000
Details: Opened the boot one day and it fell off in my hand.
Other: Dealer changed under warranty a week later.

Failure: daytime running light
Model: 1.4 multiair
Reg. Year: 2016
Mileage: 16,000
Details: unit stopped working. Was found to be melted bulb holder. Replaced

Failure: uconnect unit
Model: 1.4 multiair
Reg. Year: 2016
Mileage: 16,000
Details: endless speed camera warnings which meant I couldn't use the live services as the car wouldn't turn them off. Also lots of distortion on music playback via traditional Bluetooth. Unit updated to latest firmware. The alerts still happen but can be switched off and stay off. Distortion still present but I can now use the slow Deezer app instead. Added bonus is there's now an option to stop automatic playback when a device is attached to the USB ports. Also now sometimes a delay in the car realising I have a 3/4G connection which means it won't boot up live services include Deezer.

Failure: armrest
Model: 1.4 multiair
Reg. Year: 2016
Mileage: 16,000
Details: armrest very loose and rocking. Secured again as screws came out.

Failure: outside temperature sensor. Already covered but don't think this fixed my over reading.

Plenty more gripes but still bickering with fiat.

Car returned 17/07, appears to be fine now. Only complaint is that the car was very grubby inside, and all the boot contents removed, including the spare wheel and just thrown back in. A far cry from VW, BMW and Mini dealer experiences. Ah well.

Do you not get a valet included? Obviously not. You may get a survey from Fiat to fill out though

Hi Alan, far from it, the car had been 'slosh washed' but the interior was covered in muck from mechanics and handprints on seats etc. The sales team handed the car back to me, so it was very through-other. Never even realised the 500 pop loan car had central locking either, until the salesman pointed out that they had given me the wrong key. Pretty poor really.Fiat are refunding my taxi to collect the loan car and bave been really helpful. its the local dealer that is lacklustre (NI).

500X 1.6 Multijet Cross
Battery replaced on purchase under warranty
Passenger mirror replaced under warranty thermometer failed
Boot exterior handle cover broken warranty
Air conditioning pipe weeping at compressor maybe caused by system working overtime due to thermometer failure in mirror during extreme hot weather.

Recall awaiting rear seat release catch bezels to be replaced.

It may seem alot but it has not stopped me enjoying the car.
