Technical 2 phones ?

Can you have 2 phones connected to handsfree system at one time ?
No, Bluetooth in the car is a basic set up and can't cope with more than one connected device.

Newer smart devices can cope with multiple Bluetooth connections (phones, tablets etc.) But not these car head units.

Just to clarify, that's only one live connected device at once. You can pair multiple devices and the head unit will save the pairings for each, but it will only work with one device at a time.

I haven't tried this yet, the missus hasn't paired her's.

On a similar theme I have a large mobile data allowance so can stream anywhere, when I put a video on youtube and hook up via bluetooth the picture continues playing on the phone but the volume comes through the car speakers.

As I havent got NAV i wonder if I could find a "well described" sat nav to do a similar thing....like Sat Nav but without the map, just the woman talking.

But then I wonder in the gaps between the directions if I can get music to play so it only interrupts when the sat nav voice comes in. Anyone else tried this?

Unless technology has advanced over the last year, even a Bluetooth SatNav will not pair to the uConnect in such a way as to pipe the instructions through the car audio. I don't use the facility but it may be possible to BT music etc stored on the SatNav but not the really useful bit.

I'm quite happy to be corrected but last time I tried it I could pair the device but not get any audio instructions/directions through the car stereo.

Have you tried it with ie. Google Maps to see if it will pick up the directions? I find its spoken directions to be pretty good, but it does help if you check the route before leaving so that you know for example what junction to take, what shop to look out for to turn left at, etc.

The 500X's system is a bit naff though - I paired both mine and the wifes phones and it occasionally struggles to switch from one to the other without repairing again - even though each phone is listed within the system..........

Thanks for this info. I only have my phone in the system and thought about adding my wife's but was unsure when we entered the car together which phone would get attached as I could see no preference setting. Even if there was a preference setting a "first come first served" scenario came to mind. There is also no info as to whether any "prime" phone would disconnect/replace and other phone on it's arrival.

Both phones do list in the paired phones view but its does struggle on occassion when you try to switch from one to another...

I'm pretty sure when you pair the phone it asks if you want to make it the favourite so if it detects 2 phones in the car, it should connect with the favourite one if available.

I think we need this testing..... try it out and let us know.
My guess is that during the connection time it will search available phones and connect the favourite if available. Dont think it will drop one once connected.

Sorry I meant select second phone on screen then it uses that. When it disconnects it goes back to the first(default) phone.
