Any real MPG figures out yet ?

Hey folks. I'm currently considering getting a 500X with either the 1.6 E-Torq or the 1.4 MultiAir engine. From the official figures the 1.4 is the more economical engine but , thanks too google translate , I found some numbers on an Italian forum that suggested the 1.6 was the engine getting the better MPG.
So I'm asking what MPG have you been getting with these two engines. I doubt any of you have driven your cars long enough to wear the engines in but I would still like to hear some figures.
Thanks.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

Well it is really early days...

I have a 500X Cross MultiAir 1.4 Turbo with less than 1500 miles of driving on the clock.

Thus far what I can loosely say is that I get:

1) Around 26mpg towing a 1000kg aero dynamic caravan
2) Around 31 / 32 mpg in "out and about" driving

Thus far all my long journeys have been with a caravan attached so I have no long distance data to offer.

For me there is no choice. Forge the 1.6E-Torq. The 1.4 MultiAir well out prforms the 1.6 E-Torq and I believe that the MPG difference between them (in either direction) is not worth worrying about.

From what I'm understanding there are some rally good deals/offers available on the 1.6E-Torq. If you are restricted by budget issues then this could be a hard decision. If budget is not an issues then the 1.4 MultiAir should be very seriously considered.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

don't get petrol one.offical mpg looks good but its only giveing half, full tank 200 miles long run 350.. after 5000 miles car gives little bit better but up to 5000 miles spent really lots of petrol.. And when you get petrol dont put shell v power because full tank vpower gave only 100 miles.try to get diesel for better mpg . i wish i wasnt trust the seller and offical numbers,But classic word it depends how your foot is heavy if you kick the turbo it sucks petrol coz car is heavy

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

For some US numbers. The only real engine choice is a 2.4 L engine with a 9 speed transmission. A 1.4 L Turbo is available only on the base trim.

I have been getting 25-27 mpg using US gallons. This is equivalent to 30-33 mpg with imperial gallons. This is with the 2.4 L engine.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

I wish the 2.4 was available in Europe. It is the best petrol engine for the 500x by far.

Was going to get a dealer supplied LPG system on both of the petrol engines as 1 liter of LPG here is 0.38 Pounds. So another problem I had was the worry that the 1.4 turbo would be influenced poorly with the conversion to LPG compared to the naturally aspired 1.6.

Also the substantial discounts to the 1.6 E-torq are very tempting. So I'm still hopping that someone on this forum has the 1.6 and can give me some approximate numbers.

Now that diesels got brought up , what is the 1.6 MultiJet getting ?

I don't have a 500X, but http://www.spritmonitor.de/en/ is very good for comparing real life consumption (not that many 500X on it yet).

A quick calculation for the 500X listed (1.4 MultiAir 140) gives about 35mpg mid band/average value.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

I'm getting about 40 ish 1.4 petrol . It's not near Fiat figures but neither are any other car company's figures accurate! Car drives well and the engine is a gem. I'm loving the 500x

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

I've done well over 20,000km so far and my average is constantly at 6.5 L/100km, which is 43.4 mpg.

I drive a mixed of spirited driving and normal "by the book" driving. I haul a whole family with it.

I'm very very happy with the car, waaay better than what I expected, to be honest.

I ordered the car blindly without ever seen it (that was December of last year), but when I got it, I compared it to the Opel Mokka, Mini Countryman, Nissan Juke and the Qashqai. It was far the most beautiful and most comfortable. The Mokka was much more expensive, the Countryman was nearly double the money, the Juke was too small and the Qashqai was too boring.

My only two disappointments: the suspension is a bit hard for my tastes, and the uconnect is 80's technology.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

Well I'm up to 1777 ish miles and several fill ups. This current tank of fuel I'm in Sports Mode and driving gently. I've also done long runs in Auto Mode. In addition I've had four caravan pulls each with additional miles between each pull.

I've not yet hit (on a full tank run) anywhere near 40MPG (1.4 MultiAir 140BHP).

I want to clear 2000 miles of motoring before spilling my MPG beans in detail as personally I don't judge MPG on single or even multiple runs as this is often misleading.

Ever fill up I note if it is a full/brimmed or partial fill. If full I read and record the cars on-board MPG reading (Trip A and Reset) and then do my own MPG calculation. In all cars and all cases the on-board computer has shown better MPG.

Unlike my Croma (where Trip A and Tip B were interlinked) on the 500X I've had Trip B running for nearly the full mileage of the car. So when I come back here with data I will have Trip A & my figures and Trip B & my average of all the Trip A data to give you guys.

Looking at another angle. Our Barchetta (1.8L 130BHP) is running around the 30MPG mark. The 500X is 140BHP but a heavier car. Like for like I can't but help think that in real life a 1.4L to 1.8L 130/140BHP vehicle is going to be around the 28 to 35 MPG area which, no surprises, is always well less than official figures.

Reporting back in another 300+ miles.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

Sounds like the diesel 1.6 is more economical than the 1.4 petrol?

The above site, which lists consumption figures, has several other 1.6 diesel cars with similar figures to mine.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

The one ive ordered cross plus awd 170bhp auto 1.4 petrol, fiat says 33mpg around town,so I'm hoping for about 30mpg,as 99.9 percent of my driving is in town, with the very occasional motorway trip, never got a test drive yet,as fiat have no auto versions of the 500x to test drive which is not too great, fiat telephoned me to say the nearest dealer with an auto to test drive was about 300 miles from me,so ordered the car going by peoples reviews on here, cant wait to get it,only seen one on the road so far,and its parked near my current car at home.

Re: Any real MPG figures out yet ?

Well I've done 1400 miles in my 1.6 diesel and the mpg is very poor.

The best I've had is 50.6 mpg the worst 4 mpg. That's driving like an old man and not being able to enjoy what is otherwise a great car.
The manual says give it 3000 km to settle which is about 1800 miles so I don't hold out much hope.
Tried shell, BP, total and sainsbury. It's all the same.
Had my tdi tuning box remapped for the fiat so fitting that next week so hopefully can squeeze another 4 or 5 mpg out.

All manufacturers figures are Unachievable but the fiat 500x diesel has stretched the imagination a little too far.
I've just checked under the bonnet to check it hasn't got a VW badge on the engine
