Spanner on dashboard

Hi all i havent posted on here for quite sometime, have tried to search what im about to ask but not really come up with an answer so please dont shout if it has been covered before 😞. My 16 plate 500L has today come up with the spanner on the dash today, although i dont know much about cars i assume its to do with maintenance & service, but as the car was from new in Apr16 i didnt think my service was due til Apr18 or 18,000 miles whichever came first?? My car has done 7400 odd miles cant remember exact number but still way under, should i contact the dealer or leave it?? 😕

Pretty sure it's due every 12 months, regardless of mileage. Which engine do you have? Does your handbook not give service intervals?

Spanner on dash is to tell you a service is due soon and when carried out reset to turn the spanner symbol off.

Re: Spanner on dashboard

Sorry its a lounge 1.2. Its me being totally stupid the sticker in my car actually said Apr17 not Apr18 durr! 😟 Now the ? is do i call my fiat dealer about the service or do i chance an alternative garage?? If i dont use the fiat dealer would it affect any warranty or the finance agreement?? I have previously had a bad experience with an alternative garage with changing tyres on my last 500 but if its just an oil change etc then does it matter?

Re: Spanner on dashboard

Very tricky ,this; You should be able to take your car for service to any garage under EU Block Exemption rules,BUT if you do, make sure that the service is carried out,TO THE LETTER, IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FIAT SERVICE MANUAL, using Fiat approved parts and lubricants and insist on a detailed invoice which states the parts and lubricants that have been used. Fiat should then honour the warranty. However, I don't know of anyone who has done this successfully: perhaps some Forum members can enlighten us ?
My Fiat garage ( not Agent ) has offered to do this with my Renault Twingo ,but I would like to know what others have done, because I have heard that some manufacturers don't accept this ,and they may have been taken to court to comply with the Directive

Re: Spanner on dashboard

Just get it serviced by Fiat dealer , that way you keep your warranty without any hassle.
Especially if it's financed.

Re: Spanner on dashboard

Don't leave it another year , it could cause problems with warranty and finance.
On the positive side the car will benefit from an inspection.
Even if lowish miles.

Shop around, ask a few dealers. What area are you in? There may be some specialists that we can recommend.

Servicing is cheap when compared to replacement engines. So, yes, get it serviced.

Re: Spanner on dashboard

Damage??? Did they fix it?
If not why not?
Take lots of photos when you drop it off .fill out one of those pre rental forms showing any defects with service manager and get him / her to sign and date it.
That way they will be extra careful and if not there's no argument it's their fault.
Winner.
