Wing mirror removal.

Hi Guys,

Some tit in a huge Range Rover pulled out around some parked cars on a narrow road and driving down the wrong side of the road smashed the black plastic lower front end of my 500l wing mirror. They then drove off. It was dark and I didn't get the plate. My dashcam wasn't on . I had a quote to repair it based on a photo but when I took it in they said the hole is to big to repair.

Looking at a copy part on eBay for 65:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiat-500L-...item27ed8fb19e

Has anyone tried removing a 500L wing mirror?

I assume the cosmetic cover around the mirror adjust joystick simply pulls off and then there are ~3 bolts to undo and a molex or equiv. connector to disconnect?

The body coloured cover is OK, <1cm hairline crack, might super glue it from behind and then touch up on the front.

Thanks for any tips in changing this

Re: Door mirror removal.

Swines

I suspect it'll probably involve removing the internal door card to release the electrical plug if nothing else.

Oh and its a door mirror btw, not been wing mounted for a long while

This other eBay item shows both the connector (though on the other side) and at least one threaded hole to accept a bolt and there will I guess be more. We have never had cause to remove ours but your description sounds about right to me. That would be the method I have used on other vehicles certainly.

Re: Wing mirror removal.

Yea here is a better photo:

Just not sure about removing the joystick or not, I'm thinking probably not as there's nothing to pull on apart from the knob itself and it's bezel doesn't have anything you could twist with any tool. Just don't want to pull too hard on the cover if the joystick is supposed to be off first.

Doesn't look from the above photo that the door card needs to come off (luckily).

I'll try pulling on the cover tomorrow if it stops snowing. Want to see behind that judge if it's easy enough then I'll order the copy mirror. I may go for the S4P OEM but may as well save money as I only have the car for another month.

Here's the damage, if it wasn't cold the plastic might not have been as brittle and I might have got away with it:

Re: Wing mirror removal.

If anyone else is looking for a 500L wing mirror don't use that eBay seller I linked to, they don't have any.. they sent me a 500 mirror assembly

Looks like it will have to be S4P, even more money

But you asked what an 'assembly' was which I answered so am curious as to why you 'disliked' my clarification/explanation.

Dislike now removed, was due to me not reading it correctly and not seeing it was a 500 mirror assembly that had been sent, and not a 500L one. Thats what threw me as I thought originally sure correct part must have been sent, if its not the assembly what is the OP after, but then realised it was one for the wrong car that was sent.

Fair enough - I've reciprocated and removed mine.
