Hi all,

We got a new 1.2 lounge last weekend and went for a decent drive today. We love the car but the air con wasn't blowing any cold air at all, which made it a hot and sweaty journey!
Anyway, popped round to the dealer who said the system hadn't been gassed and to book it in and they will sort it.
Just got me thinking, as we bought this pre registered and it was actually in their showroom, that is the gassing of the air con done by dealers and not the factory?
I guess the refrigerant is a fire hazard so not a good idea transporting from Poland with a "live" air con would be wise, but is this right - dealers sort out air con before handing the car to the customer?

Hi and welcome to Fiat Forum.
The car's aircon should have been charged with gas at the factory. It's not a transport hazard. It'a likely there was a leak or some damage. You should ask the garage for written report of what was wrong. The Fiat 500 is listed as using the latest gas, HFO-1234yf, it's worth checking the garage is equipped to work with this.

You mean the expensive gas :D

As car relatively new and under warranty up to dealer to find the cause. I doubt a regas solves everything. My mechanic reckoned possible to fill it with too much. Also bear in mind in really warm weather it won't feel freezing. But have a temperature drop of 6 degrees and it doesn't work as hard. So had freezing cold air again, as opposed to air that was maybe 15 degrees. Maybe put a fridge thermometer on the air vents cold on full speed. The temperature range about 2 to 7 degrees I believe. If room temperature there is issue.

Only too easy to do this, especially if people get a "top up kit" from Halfords say, that's why the technician has the cylinder on accurate scales when refilling.

And to the OP, once fixed, never turn the AC off especially in winter.

Thank you for the replies. The car is going to the dealers tomorrow, they have all the equipment to deal with the new air con gas, so I hope to have it sorted out soon.
