Just a quick ( ish ) post that may help others, although not aware any others have experienced this problem.
Ruby ( our 1.2 500 ) developed a terrible squeak from the operation of the clutch after a short distance of driving.
Noise was from under the bonnet rather than inside the cabin.
Initially assumed it was the clutch release mechanism in the gearbox and put it on the list of things to do, remove gearbox = big job.
She was due an oil change, so whilst doing this got someone to operate the clutch while I felt the clutch components. I could ' feel ' the noise, however it felt worse when holding the ( plastic! )slave cylinder.
I removed the cylinder ( leaving hydraulic line connected ), removed the dust cover and had a look inside.
The piston was down the far end, with a few squirts of silicone spray the piston slowly juddered up the cylinder.
I then worked it back and forth a few times and packed in some silicone grease ( with the piston pushed back in )
Reassembled, a test drive revealed silence and a slightly smoother/lighter feeling clutch pedal operation.

Ours squeaks all the time from "the gearbox" I suspect its the release bearing against the clutch plate leaves not much you can do easily so just live with it.

If the so called squeak is only there on the movement of the pedal, it won't be the release bearing. Worn release bearings give a constant whirring sound once pressure is applied to the mechanism (clutch pedal). If you are getting more than a whirring rumble, it should be replaced before failure.

Interesting though... thanks for the tip!

Only squeaks when you press the pedal sounds like dry metal on metal.

A squeak as the pedal is depressed is the mechanism - not the release bearing.
If you get a screeching sound from the gearbox area on holding down the pedal, then the release bearing is badly warn and likely to fail.

I've always found the squeaking clutch pedal problem to be the fork bushes inside the gearbox not being adequately greased. The problem gets worse once the cars been running for while everything gets warm. The only solution I've found was to remove the gearbox and re-grease the bushes and put a new clutch in while I was there.

Our one squeaked all the time, engine on or off, just pressing the pedal even just a little bit.
If yours does too, well worth checking the slave cylinder.
SO much better to drive, smoother & quieter!!

I have a new slave to fit but have not done so yet, the biggest issue being getting the not so quick connect apart?

I've only had my fiat for two weeks and when I took it for a test drive it didn't make any squeaking noise but if I do any journeys that are about 20 minutes or more the clutch starts to squeak really worried it could be something serious ?

My partners fiat developed a loud clutch squeak after driving for approx 20 mins, turned out to be the slave cylinder. Part cost 120 pound and took just over an hour to fit.

My wife's twin air does this and it happens same as others on this topic. After about 20-30 minutes of driving when everything gets warm, each time the pedal is pressed a squeak can be heard from the gearbox area with the difference that sometimes the pedal gets stuck to the floor. If in motion it can be brought back by tapping on it with the foot or by lifting it with the tip of the foot however it happens in first gear also and makes leaving traffic lights a real pain...

I have replaced the master cylinder a few months ago as it was slowly leaking inside the cabin and it seemed to improve until last tuesday when my wife got stranded in the middle of the intersection of a major road at the traffic ligths, pedal stuck down and couldn't take off. I have replaced today the slave cylinder as well, I will have to see if it happens again. Wife is scared of driving the car now so we swapped cars temporarily.

my squeeking developed after driving for half an hour or so it wasn’t just when I depressed the clutch it was also on release

Garage had a look and thought it was the slave.... so I swapped it for a new one still a squeeking so I bought a new master slave and swapped that! No more squeeking!!!! And still none to this day!

Probably your master slave mine was the same I was advised to change the slave cylinder too .... luckily I’m handy with the tools!
