Hi there,

Can anyone explain to me how to get to the air filter on a 500 Twinair please. I've bought a BMC lifetime filter but cannot work out how to get the air box cover off.

Thanks

Two 10mm headed bolts near the front of the cover at the top; I unclip the turbo intake hose from the front corner of the engine cover/lid, and remove the one 5mm allen bolt to remove the air intake bracket from the other side and take the pipe and bracket off complete with the cover..

Then turn the cover upside down, remove the screws to take the inner cover off to get the filter out.

Are the Twinair spark plugs under the cover too ?

Some pictures on how to replace the air filter and spark plugs.

Some questions;

1) What size spark plug spanner is required for the TA, the double ended spark plug spanner I have is either too small on one end or too wide on the other

2) I cant squeeze the clip back on the air inlet pipe, is there a special tool for this ? could some one show me how to do it please :)

I will replace the pollen filter tomorrow, here is link to a decent video tutorial

I chucked the original clip and fitted a screw type.

Thanks for posting the video, I've a feeling it's not as accessible in a RHD though! Let us know how you get on!

bought a 65mm clip from Halfords, trying it soon, its slightly wider but there is a gap there to take it.

Mercky, read this first thing in the morning... you are full of encouraging confidence, I really don't know how to thank you :)

I bought a long 16mm magnetic spark plug spanner from Halfords too, worth paying the price as the indi will charge to fit the plugs and better to do them yourself for full satisfaction.

No problem! Did you get out of the wrong side of the bed after you read the post?:D

Instead of Click R pliers I used the following tool to open it:ImageUploadedByFIAT Forum1438438337.407236.jpg

Open looks like that:

And this tool to attach it again:

Here some more pictures of the air filter box- comparing used an new filter:

To open the filter box you have to unscrew 6 screws.

The following picture shows the upper part of the filter box backside where you attach the part showed on picture above :

To remove the spark plug connector you have to unplug the connector. To do so you have to pull the yellow part and than press the black part above to unlock the connector:

Here old and new spark plug in comparison (after 30.000km):

To remove spark plugs is easy to do:

Possibly it helps....

That video showing the pollen filter housing etc is totally wrong for a RHD car.

Utterly wrong, not just LHD vs RHD.

There are three screws to undo, one a Torx and two Allen. The pollen filter cover just clips off, it isn't bolted in and you don't need to undo any electrical connectors.

Did it only yesterday on ours.

Regards,
Mick.
