I am a total petrolhead and have an odd hobby:eek:.
Making proper exhausts for sportscars. It isn't my job it's just a mad hobby.

I was thinking of acquiring a FIAT 500 for myself (Red of course) ;) but having looked at the options for more sporty exhausts I was a bit disappointed by what I found. Only really expensive, mostly foreign systems seem to exist. There was nothing on eBay apart from a mega expensive (£700) but I have to say interesting looking system for the Abarth version.

Nothing for the 500 though.

I have owned ...I've lost count how many Fiats over the years and the one thing that they have is a proper sound, an exhaust that makes all the Italian noises. I find that the 500 is a bit quiet, would anybody else agree?

So I am considering developing a sporty exhaust for the 1.2 and 1.4 FIAT 500.
It would be straight-through as all classic Italian systems should be and would be a simple replacement for the standard single exit system. BUT it would be super shiny 304 grade stainless steel, and mandril bent to maximise on the power and to reduce back pressure.

It would be pretty much like my exhausts for MGs which go under the name of TT-exhausts.

Would anybody like to comment or be part of the prototyping exercise?

there are already several manufacturers/companies making/selling exhausts for Fiat 500 including Supersprint Janspeed and Nuova500Shop

They are quite expensive though
I am hoping to make them for a good deal less than that! And not to put too fine a point on it I want to make them a bit more exclusive. Each individually numbered and a bit louder. More like a classic FIAT

I'd be interested in this. I'm currently head scratching about what to do with my 1.4. Planning to replace the exhaust some time over the summer. My initial thoughts are to remove the manifold and stick a supersprint on it. From the manifold back I'm looking at as straight as possible pipe with a removable sports cat in the bottom section. I'm thinking removable so that I can pull the cat out and slide in a straight through pipe for track days and the like. On that point, I'd be looking to keep it below 95db in terms of noise so I don't get black flagged on the track.

Also, I quite like the idea of not just buying the default options and getting something individual done.

What were you thinking?

I am thinking centre race tube. and a straight through rear box.

I never had any problems with the TT Mk1-4 with track days and that exhaust was designed to be road and track legal

This is an image of the FIAT 1.4 system.

The cat appears to be very close to the manifold. I wouldnt bother swapping it in and out.

The cat is in the manifold. The 1.4 responds very very well to having the cat removed, hence my desire to get rid of the clunky factory manifold with its inbuilt cat and move the cat somewhere it can be bolted in and out easily. Imagine part 420628 above being a cat with a flange at each end to allow it to be unbolted and run straight through for track days.

Isn't that part an exhaust mounting, lol.

i had a Supersprint system on my 1.4 inc manifold and it really freed up the engine, the stoopid manicat needs to go

Did you replace the cat with another one further down the system? If not, how did it go on an MOT? Also, isn't there a sensor that plugs in somewhere just after the manifold bit? Did you supersprint have a boss for this? And did it mess anything up?

Well, if you needed a 1.2 for the day to use as a template I'd happily oblige.

Where do you live. I need to have a good rummage about underneath.

Mark, How many new exhausts do you want, lol. I'm sure that a TwinAir would be far more worthy candidate.

I am hoping that the existing rear box is common across the FIAT 500 range but yes I did think of that and what's more is that the twinair engine should produce a very interesting sound. So all the better.

To make this all happen all I need is a standard FIAT 500 exhaust if anybody has one lying around having bought a sportier one!...?

Here's something I made earlier, this time on an MGF

Well if any of you guys want to go fir it and get a proper but good value pipe on your 500 get in contact with me. I will be prototyping one soon. Interest will determine whether I do this or not but I like the car and fancy doing it.

Magnetti Marelli makes a center pipe for the 500! I have it installed with the oem muffler, and sounds great! It eliminates the center muffler also!
