Hello everyone, im Adam , im from east yorkshire, dont know if anyone else is from around here anyway as you can tell as this is my first post , im newto the site/forum and just wondering about the 500 , i love the look of it and may at some point if i do get one get some stripes on it. the 500 would be my 2nd car so far as at the moment i have a vauxhall corsa which ive has for nearly 2 years

i passed my test in it its a52 reg so its getting old but its done just shy of 25000 miles as before me , it was an old couple who had it and didnt do much travelling , it had 13000 on it when ive got it so ive only put 12000 on it in 2 years

the 500 appeals as its not just ordinary run of the mill, its stylish modern but still practical unlike another car(toyota iq) i like but no longer thinking about just because the 500 is more practical

ill be looking to get a 500 before july hopefully and just wondering if you know of any problems or anything there is to look out for with the car also anything thats happened maybe with your car, that would put you off buying one if you had known of problems before you bought yours (if thats understandable)

thanks in advance for your help

No serious problems reported here. Few flashing dash lights, Blue&Me causes some issues and the ride is a bit choppy in the pre 2010 cars.

The stop&start caused some problems to a few cars but that seems to be resolved now with a software patch as was the difficult to start in cold weather of the 1.2

The cars however have gotten very pricey new :-( and im not sure I would buy a new one, certanly not a diesel again.

I am sorely tempted by an A500 though saw a lovely plane grey one outside sandicliffe in Nottngham as I was dropping mine off for a service.

Like he said! I had mine for over two years, and had wheel caps replaced, fan heater unit replaced and fob key replaced under warranty. No major issues, odd rattle here and there, usually changes with the weather, Blue and Me misbehaves sometimes ... and that is it! Very happy so far! Good luck with your choice!

I would hardly say the 500 is practical per se, sure it's not as bad as the iQ but tbh the iQ is tiny so anything is going to seem practical after that. The 500 is not a comfortable car for people in the back. The boot will fit a weeks shopping but it's a squeeze.

i have looked at the iq and gave it serious consideration, also i am saying the 500 is more practical, i know its a bigger car,... but for a 3 door modern, iconic car, it is all those things but more practical than you would think, a good boot, rear legroom may not be huge but is ok.

anyway going to look next week at doncaster fiat and see what i think then, it will be the 3rd time ive look at the 500s, and this time we will be closer to buying one as we have the money to do so now.

also what colours do people say are the better ones? obviously youre going to say whatever colour you car is but just wanting to know as im not sure what colour to get, i like white/yellow , not sure about the others

Hi Adam, My advice would be dont buy a red one! Mine is red and the paint chips are quite bad, with white undercoat showing through, particulatly on bonnet (naturally!). Because I love the car, this really annoys me. Other than that though - great choice of car!

IMHO it looks too plain in the silver now offered. Best colours EVAR were Calypso Orange and ye ye green. Out of current crop, either Bossa Nova White or Yellow. Sort of wish I'd gone for yellow sometimes, very rare round here.

I own a red 500 and my paint is still in pretty good condition one year on! I have one stone chip on the bonett, and one near one of the head lights, so not that bad.. but saying that I assume it comes down to mileage. I have only done 3,500, but if I had a greater mileage I assume I would have more stone chips to boot.

I really adore my red paint, it comes up super after a wash, and disguises the dirt pretty good too.

I own a black one with graphite viper stripes down the middle and very low suspension :D

Been back to dealers twice in 4000 miles. Once for an electronic 'alignment' check (cant remember exactly what it was) and the second for a Clutch Master Cylinder failure which was repaired straight away under warrantee

I love the car... (y)

just something im thinking about, a rear spoiler possibly, maybe some fog lights, also side stripes/decals

does anyone here know if its possible im sure it would be to after i bought a car without fog lights , could they be fitted and does anyone know how long it would take, would they have to mess around a lot with the car, also how much with fitting? also how much do side stripes range from , from maybe a basic design to racing stripes or similar

also does anyone know how much it would be to buy the rear spoiler, have it painted and fitted? not sure if anyone has done this or whether you bought your cars with the spoilers etc

many thank

talk soon

Worst.Insurance.Company.Ever.

I'm 20 and "sport" in the name is not a problem at all. Looking at gocompare, it isn't for pretty much every company. The 1.2 is a group 4 for crying out loud!

Fog lights as a factory option are fine, not retrofittable. I *think* the spoiler can be had at the factory. As a dealer add on it'll be £££

Edit: Come to think of it, aside from the size of the quote I wouldn't have a problem insuring nigh on every car I asked about. Including some fairly exotic stuff.

Agree with Zanes. If your insurance company is saying they won't insure you on a sport then go elsewhere. There's nothing more "sporty" about the sport that makes it more risky for them to insure.

Zanes, i dont suppse by any chance you would let me know what insurer your with, to get aquote on a car to see how much one would be for me?

thanks in advance

But, as Maxi says use a comparison website. The Lounge and Sport should be roughly equal insurance wise, as AFAIK they are both the same insurance group.

I used confused.com for a 1.2 lounge and it came out 15 more to insure than my current insurer, ill find a sports reg and use that and see how much it is, thanks for the info, its much appreciated
