Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

Thought I would share my recent service quotes with the group (everyone say awwww)

Car Details
My car is a 1.2 Pop, and has now done 22k miles

Registered April 2008
1st Service April 2009 (Don't know type of service) @14k miles
I purchased in July 2009

In Summary:

Been offered 3 types of services

36k service, MAJOR Includes, Brake Fluid, Oil Filter, Pollen Filter, Air Filter, Spark Plugs, Rocker Cover Gasket
18k service, MEDIUM Includes, Brake Fluid, Oil Filter, Pollen Filter, Air Filter, Spark Plugs
Low Milage Service Includes, Oil Filter, Pollen Filter, Air Filter

Details:

EMG Motor Group Spalding 0844 662 5695

36k £420 estimated 4 hrs of labour
low £125 (no brake fluid), £170 with brake fluid

wash and hover free

Stoneacre Peterborough 0844 662 5587

36k £411 - estimated 3 hours of labour
low £162.63

Advanced Motor Group Lincoln

36k £385.83
18k £183
low £125.27

Marshall Hitchin 0844 662 5708

36k £489
18k £204.16 + £40 for brake fluid
low £139 + £40 for brake fluid

Conclusion
I have fallen off my chair more than once .. almost £500 for a service is shocking.

Dealers can not agree which service I need - although I am leaning towards the 18k service

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

does the 18K include adjusting the Tappets? or just the 36K

I've got this decision on a 2 year old car with just 12,000 after the low mileage one last year. Haven't done the leg work myself yet

Well, they seem to suggest that the low milage service is only applicable for cars that have done less than 6k since the last service.

I would imagine your's should have the 18k service, but with the extras required brake fluid etc

My last car was so simple - 20,000 miles or 1 year. Whichever comes quicker, and in the format Minor and then Major service. Offering 3 different types of service just plain confusing

I've never known any car that has such a complicated service requirement as the 500. It would seem nobody is 100% certain what needs doing and when!
Thanks grimwau thanked for this post

Yep - One thing I know - I am not going to be paying nearly £500 for a service - it's silly - AutoTrader are going to have to start advertising the last service type when buying a 500!

According to the OP only the 36K service includes the rocker cover gasket.

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

isn't the 36K also the 2 year one, so I may need it to keep the warranty going into 3rd year dealer warranty?

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

i think the key thing here is that someone serviced it too early-

thought the actual service requirement -(if not needing the low mileage one)..was 18k or 2 years?

so in effect if you have the 18k one done, this will almost repeat what was done at 14k??

it seems like your car is out of the servicing sync a little.

a better bet would be to leave it 18k miles/2 years 'whichever comes first' from the last service date- this will save you money,

there is no real way your car will need a service at this point...

Are these not mandatory at 2 years old?

It's weird, because my car has done 8k since it was last serviced 12 months ago - but none of the garages can confirm whether my car needs a service or not.

I had the fiat 500 servicing manual out for this-

unless you have low mileage in the first year (which you dont) or drive in more extreme conditions, ie frequent very short journeys/weather conditions its as simple as 18k/36k etc etc- this keeps the warranty intact- there is no time limit attached- it allows a 1000 mile leeway either side of this too.

so unless you want to spend the money, wait until 32k miles- this is how your car has been designed. you absolutely dont need to worry about the warranty-

however it would be useful to know what service was done at 14k miles to put your mind at rest....im presuming it was the 18k and not the low mileage oil change....

to clarify for normal use- 18k miles/36k etc etc- no time limits...straight from the service book..

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

well booked my with GK in Sheffield, they said 18K would be fine for 2 years but mechanic would make decision on rocker cover. £158 with collection and delivery.

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

I have had the same problem, nobody knows what it should have.
In the end had 18k service done for £195 at forward autos. They didn't do the pollen and air filter, basically said it's a waste of money paying for the parts when whats in is fine, Might be something I do myself next year when it just has a low mileage service. Its only done 14k.
Think its more complicated because the servicing has changed to 2 years. I'm going have a low mileage at year 3 and have the major 36k at 4years.

Did that include brake fluid alfatastic? Must admit I left that as recommended by garage but not sure if should get it done?

Re: Servicing Costs Examples for 1.2 Pop 2 years old

Not sure on the Brake fluid, as got a bit confused with what service man was saying was needed to keep it in warranty. Guess I'll find out with the itemised bill. I think for my type of city driving 2 year brake fluid change maybe overkill anyway.

Thanks for the post - very informative - but ...

the service book also states that the brake fluid should be changed every 2 years, and some filters every year .. but that is at odds with the "not time related" statements. I also could not find the statement about the 1000 miles leeway in the manual.

The fact that the service interval changed, does that include cars sold before the service interval was changed? or are there now two schedules

At my rate, I won't hit 32k for another 10 months at least - surely I need the brake fluid and other yearly checks done earlier?
