General servicing costs

I'll just correct you if I may!

1st service £126 (£116 diesel)
2nd service £146 (£166 diesel)
3rd service £126 (£116 diesel)

not exactly going to break the bank with those prices.....

Suzisue (or anyone else) if your ever north of the border P.M. me and i'll arrange it so you can see exactly whats involved in a service, parts used/items checked (including those not on the service sheet) examiner work / roadtesting etc

My local dealer wanted £260 for a 1st year service! After much rangling on the phone they would 'do a deal' at £160. This was (as it turned out) infact a low milage service but they tried to make out it was a special price / service for us. Cheeky w@nkers...

I am taking it to my trusted (vat registered) local indi for a service after I spoke to fiat and they said it was ok so long as they were vat registered and any parts used were fiat brand.

yes thats too much especially for low mileage (which is a load of crap IMO) however using a VAT registered garage is well known on this forum any many use them. One thing is garages often look at the service counter when trading car in (not your book...anyone can stamp that) and you will have to pay for any software updates out of 2 years if they are needed.

Yes thats right when my car get three years old I will service it my self and get fiat to reset every thing

The service counter is reset-able by anyone through the menu isn't it? You can do it on mine easy. No special way of doing it as far as i know. What else needs "re setting" that can't be done by Joe Public?
You can't reset it on the car. you need the examiner software.

I got as far as "SERVICE" in the menu, then the mileage started flashing and i just assumed you pressed + or - to put it up or down! Was too scared in case i fudged it up! Is there more to it than that then?
Yep, you need the equipment and only the dealers have it at the moment ;)

we (well I) were talking about the service counter in the ECU not the service needed/required etc displayed in the instrument panel.

High Servicing Costs

My 500 pop 2nd year service costs me £400 !!!!. Very expensive, get a quote before getting the vehicle serviced. Ford KA cost about £ 190 (apparently same vehicle mechanically). Cheap car to run and reliable BUT unhappy about servicing costs from main dealer.

It's up to the individual owner to shop around. When you're buying a TV would you just walk into Currys and say "I want that one" and pay? No! You'd do your research online, check other stores and then go in and ask for a discount.

Arnold Clark Garages say service your car from £69 but do they have the tools to reset the ecu?
Local garages I:E kwik fit do full service and mot for £169 reset tool? I not asked yet
