Just been in my first traffic jam with the 500 and demisting the windscreen was a nightmare. I don't have the auto climate control just the manual version. Changing the fan speed knob makes no difference at all, i can't feel or hear anything. How quiet is the fan? should i be able to hear it? The air conditioning seems to switch on but changing the fan speed knob or air distribution knob makes no difference. i have checked the fuse (f08) i think, am i missing something or is it broken?

You should hear the fan for sure.

Sounds like its faulty, you should definitely hear the fan blowing especially on 4. If its very steamed up, putting the direction knob on the little windscreen and the speed on 4 should clear it, especially if you put the air con on too. I haven't had any problems with this. Sounds like a dealer job to me!

Just had a thought..... is the system on recirculate? When we first got our car it was and within minutes of driving off we were in fog city....

possible... should still hear the fan tho? Ive changed to recirc when the fans been on and the sound has changed but you could still hear it. And some air would still blow on the screen wouldn't it? Its cold out, Im not schlepping outside to try it! LOL

Tried in both positions.... but i would still be able to hear the fan but there's nothing. I don't think its worked since it was last at the dealers for the Blue&me problem maybe they have removed wiring and haven't put it back but i have no idea where the fan is actually fitted! Oh well i'll ring the dealer 2morrow, thats another day lost. (n)

Go outside now with no radio on and turn the key to mar and try it? You'll know for sure then :)

Yeah i've tried that.... nothing happening at all, no sound/no blowing. i.ve not noticed it before as my normal commute is enough to keep the screen clear i.e no traffic jams. I'll speak to the dealer 2morrow i don't expect they'll get to it b4 xmas.

I used the fan to clear the misted windscreen this morning and you can definately hear (and feel) the air blowing. There is no way you can mistake it when its on position 4.

Yours sounds broke to me... :(

Sounds like a loose connection I guess. Perhaps when your other issue was looked at they might have disconnected the fan by accident? Dunno.......

If it doesn't sound like there's a mini tornado when set to '4' then it's probably broken! ;)

Anybody know where the fan is positioned in the 500 i know its usually on the passenger side behind the glovebox on other cars i've had just wondered if i can see it to check wiring/connections?

well thats where i would expect to find it too its not unheard of for the fan motor to die....

or the plug to be left out (it only pushes on)

get a torch and stick your head under and have a look

Just got back from the dealers and after an hour of looking at my car they said "although it wasn't working when i had brought it in they had been fiddling with the wires/connections and it was now". I think they had found it had not been connected properly when they last had it in and hadn't the honesty to say as "fiddling" with the wires to make it work isn't a very good fix. Doesn't give me any confidence for future service/repair relationship with Vospers. :bang:

Leaving something unplugged is easily done and could happen to anyone.
