No!

 See above.

what does it say in the manual?

“Smart washing” function
Pull the stalk towards the steering wheel
(unstable position) to operate the windscreen
washer jet.
Keep the stalk pulled to activate with a single
movement the windscreen washer jet
and the windscreen wiper; the latter automatically
turns on if you keep the stalk pulled for over half a second.
The windscreen wiper stops operating a few
strokes after releasing the stalk; a further
“cleaning stroke”, after a few seconds, completes the wiping operation.

This person is obviously not squirting for long enough Grimwau.

Perhaps! Half a second isn't very long though.

Can the OP confirm that he is holding the washers on for more than a couple of seconds so that we can advise that there is a fault or not?
Faulty car or person not using wipers properly. Which is more likely? :p

Squirted mine this afternoon and wipers did not automatically come on - just like OP. Next time I will try to squirt for a bit longer:) I don't know how long I was pulling the stalk but half a second isn't very long so imagine I must have been at it for at least that amount of time:D

Being a fairly new 500 driver, I would prefer the wipers to come on (or as close to) instantly; this has been the case on my other cars.

But, in any case, holding the stalk down does the trick in a second or two

There is a reason for it though, it means that the screen is nice and wet before the wiper tries to wipe which means less scratches and streaking which is a good thing.

The theory is fine, but its implementation is flawed. The first time I used it, water sprayed onto my screen and the wipers didn't come on. What possible reason would cause me to want the spray and not the wipe?

Given that if someone is spraying their screen (presumably to enhance visibility) then the single action of spraying the screen should then activate the windows (even after 2 seconds or nice and wet) - but you should not have to hold the stalk down.

In any case, its just the way the 500 works. Personally I would prefer the two actions to be combined, or a single tug on the stalk to do both.

No **** sherlock!

Once again you are being rude and ignoring the points made to you.

Re-read the comments and come up with something intelligent or just keep mouth shut.

I really can't be bothered to get into a slanging match with someone like you.

My comments were, I thought it would have been better for a single tug to do the following

1. splash water
2. a slight pause
3. clean screen

I can draw you a diagram if you would like??
