Hi,

does anyone have graphs with power and torque curves in dependance of RPM? I am, as many of you, considering these two engines and I would like to see exactly what is the difference between them.

BTW can owners of these lovely cars put here relationship between RPM and speed on highest grade (5 for the 1.2 and 6 for the 1.4). E.g. 70MPH = 3000RPM on 1.2.

Thanks in advance. It will really help me...

Indeed I do. Well, for the 1.4 at least. This is from last year when I had my 1.4 remapped by Red Dot racing and had the GSR Induction kit fitted.

The graph compares both:

Mine gets a regular run up to 100mph so I'll have a peek at the rpm/vs speed next time I'm out.

cheers
Jason

Thanks for the info. Actually, diesel is only engine I´m not considering. The graph of jnoiles is great, the torque curve is much more straight than I expected. If I could find similar graph for 1.2 engine...

I'm sure I've seen a graph of the 1.2 somewhere. I just can't remember where.

Curious about the diesel, why is that the only engine you're seriously considering? It never crossed my mind to go diesel, something about zingy rev happy petrol engines and small Italian cars seemed right :)

jnoiles, you lost "not" in my answer. Diesel was out of game from beggining, I don´t think it is good choice for small car...

Voluptua, great ;) I think the engine is the same, so it should be right graph. The scale is a little bit extravagant, but it will definitely help me...

The Grande Punto and 500 share the same bottom end but have different heads. The 500 has the same head as the 1.4 8V engine found in the Grande Punto this is why the GP 1.2 is 65 bhp and the 500 1.2 is 69 bhp. I'm assured there is quite a difference in the torque curve aswell with the 500 engine having VVT.

Venters, thanks for this comment.

In the meantime I have already found graph for 1.2 engine:

Never easy to compare wheel horsepower on one curve with flywheel on another, but the 1.2 does seem to fair pretty well, offering 90-95Nm across its normal working range. The 1.4 wheel figures of 80-85 suggest about 100-110 at the flywheel ?

I've never understood the desire to get a guesstimated flywheel power figure. Instead of a much more accurate wheel power figure. I guess it's easier to brag pub numbers if using a flywheel figure and at the same time is easier to cook the books using a flywheel figure too.

I can understand on a 4wd car because you do lose a lot of HP through the drivetrain but on a 2wd car? Hmmmmm I think like you're saying it's bragging.

because that is what people want. wheel figures are there on the day, but they prefer the fly ones as that is more common

Hi,
You have probably found some graphs by now, if not try this link.
There are four types of engine graphs available by selection near top of page. eg 1.2 , 1.2 , 1.4 , 1.3 MJTD.

URL was rejected.

Won't let new bees post URLs
