Mine gets the following every weekend;

-Vacuum interior
-Rinse off car with water
-Blast the wheel arches with hosepipe to remove heavy deposits of dirt
-Clean wheels with wheel brush and rinse off
-Wash bodywork using lambswool mitt, AutoGlym car shampoo, two buckets (one for clean water, one for rinsing)
-Rinse off each panel with a light sprinkle from the hose as I go along
-Dry all glass with a drying blade
-Dry with Meguairs Water Magnet for bodywork
-Dry with old chamois for door jambs, boot lid and under bonnet areas
-Clean interior all over with Turtlewax wipes
-Clay off any tar spots or heavy dirt
-Clean chrome with Meguairs Quick Detailer

Then every two weeks;
-Scrub under wheel arches with an old brush
-Wax car all over with Meguairs Gold Class Wax
-Reblacken any dark areas with TurtleWax Black in a Flash
-Polish exhaust with an old cloth and Meguairs Quick Detailer
-Polish all windows except for windscreen and rear window with AutoGlym Glass cleaner

Once it's been cleaned and whatnot it usually get ruined a few days later due to the amount of dirt and mud etc. on the roads but it's still worth it. I get a lot of trouble from relatives, neighbours etc. who keep saying 'You'll wash it away!' but one of my neighbours cleans his car using washing up liquid and a broom. :eek:

My foam lance arrived this morning, I can't wait to use it and see how it compares to the old bucket and sponge method !

Yes, please let us know. I've been told off for using sponge, so before I get completely ostracised, I better switch to something acceptable ;) (or I just contact Mark to do it for me as the last time I vaxed mu car I couldn't sleep for the pain in my shoulders :eek:)

I notice LLoyd17 mentioned 2 buckets.

This is the technique used by people with show cars.

The two bucket method.
One bucket of soapy water and one of clean.
Each time you refresh the mitt you do it in the clean water first so you deposit everything in the clean bucket. give it a good go in there.

Then move to the soapy bucket before going back to the paintwork.

This will be even better than the grit guard alone but will work even better with it.

This will massively eliminate those small swirl marks on you new paint work.
