Over the last six months I had noticed a weird noise when turning the wheel to the right when backing up. I went to my regular mechanic and he found that the motor mounts in my 2012 Fiat 500 Sport had cracked. As a result of the motor shifting the right CV joint was damaged and was leaking fluid. I went ahead and had these repairs completed.
After the repairs were completed one of the mechanics noticed that the engine was "shuddering" until it warmed up. I had them check the transmission fluid and he started yelling that it was "burnt". Keep in mind that this is the same mechanic who had been doing my oil change/service for the last three years, but hadn't apparently look at the transmission fluid before. I was told a new transmission in the Fiat is $6,300 because it has to be purchased from the dealer. I don't want them to do a flush and fill because I'm worried it will damage the transmission.
I don't feel a "shutter". At around 2700-3000 RPM the change from one gear to the next feels rough. It doesn't happen all the time. Then this morning I started the car and noticed the transmission warning light came on and I couldn't switch into reverse. I turned it off, sat a minute or two and when I restarted I was able to get it into reverse with no warning.
I'm taking it to another mechanic to look at it tomorrow. This mechanic doesn't do the power flush. He does a manual drain and refill of the transmission fluid. Sorry for the long post. Let me know if anyone has experience or advice about this issue.
