Question Transmission Issues??

Over the last six months I had noticed a weird noise when turning the wheel to the right when backing up. I went to my regular mechanic and he found that the motor mounts in my 2012 Fiat 500 Sport had cracked. As a result of the motor shifting the right CV joint was damaged and was leaking fluid. I went ahead and had these repairs completed.

After the repairs were completed one of the mechanics noticed that the engine was "shuddering" until it warmed up. I had them check the transmission fluid and he started yelling that it was "burnt". Keep in mind that this is the same mechanic who had been doing my oil change/service for the last three years, but hadn't apparently look at the transmission fluid before. I was told a new transmission in the Fiat is $6,300 because it has to be purchased from the dealer. I don't want them to do a flush and fill because I'm worried it will damage the transmission.

I don't feel a "shutter". At around 2700-3000 RPM the change from one gear to the next feels rough. It doesn't happen all the time. Then this morning I started the car and noticed the transmission warning light came on and I couldn't switch into reverse. I turned it off, sat a minute or two and when I restarted I was able to get it into reverse with no warning.

I'm taking it to another mechanic to look at it tomorrow. This mechanic doesn't do the power flush. He does a manual drain and refill of the transmission fluid. Sorry for the long post. Let me know if anyone has experience or advice about this issue.

I think your mileage speaks volumes. Your duologic gearbox has come to the end of its life by the sound of it.

Re: Transmission Issues??

It could well be that your gearbox is knackered.
But... the actuator may still be OK if it hasn't already been overstressed.
Only way I can think of to tell is to swap the actuator onto a good gearbox and try it.
The good news is that Second hand gearboxes are cheap, unlike actuators.
Of course, it would make sense to change the clutch at the same time, which means recalibrating it, but OK to do with MultiECUScan.

The OP is from the US so this car won't have a dualogic gearbox. US 500's have a conventional automatic transmission.

In two words, economy and emissions.

Both would be 15%-20% higher than a dualogic if fitted with a conventional autobox.

But other cars have conventional autos, what makes the Fiats different?
