Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

Well yes but in that case surely the euro version is better from a european perspective.

I'd also say larger cup holder would just mean our cups fall about and spill over so USA Fiat 500 worse than Europe would be a better thread title unless your in America?

I also personnally dont think the colours are better but that's personal preference.

with the ride maybe (tbc) - eveything else, erm..no

Anyhow I've just watched the live launch and it's been confirmed that the USA Fiat 500 comes with a FULL 4 YEAR WARRANTY WITH ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE (y)

So sorry I stand by my thread title - as a person from Europe. Fiat UK warranty is crap which is something most people agree. The Americans are doing a very good job marketing this car. e.g. using Italian names for colours instead of music is sensible. Fiat UK take note.

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

they are getting as an option a 6 speed automatic transmission?

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

Because it's got the new 1.4 MultiAir 16v engine :)

It's nothing to do with the fact the the engine is a 1.4 multiair and everything to do with the fact that in the US, automatics are far more popular.

Italian names for colours is neither here nor there. Anyone that chooses whether to buy a car or not just based on the fact that the colours have Italian names is a bit of a plonker really.

You seem to be taking this very personally and seem to be looking at this purely from your perspective and thinking that everyone wants what you want. Sure a longer warranty would be nice but the buyer pays for the warranty anyway and neither the 500 or the Panda are tremendously unreliable in the long term. The issues I've had with my car are the following in just under 20k miles, a clip on the gearshift gaiter broke and the one way valve on the washer bottle doesn't work all that well so when I wash the rear screen a tiny bit of screenwash comes out of the front nozzles which is so annoying that the dealership has had a part in stock for almost 3 months and called me yesterday to find out when I'd be coming in........ Some people might like Italian names for colours, some might like musical names and some people like my good self simply don't give a **** because when I walk up to the car in the morning I like the colour, not the name of the colour.

To summarise again, I think you're looking at what you want and assuming that this is what all other 500 owners want. Tbh I'm pretty happy with my car.

It's just marketing at the end of the day, different country, different people, different economy, different ways of marketing. The idea is to make people want to buy something and people desire different things in different countries for various reasons.

Exactly. Just like an Abarth isn't better than a regular 500. They're different cars which fulfill a different set of needs. I'd get annoyed at wasting fuel on the way to work in an Abarth and you'd be suicidal trying to get thrills out of a 1.2 on the road.

They have an option with Mopar in the name, who knows what it is but I'm sold. Also Sirius sattalite radio is fantastic wish we had it here. And I quite like the dark green, wonder if thats the By Diesel green which is nice

To you maybe. At least I wouldn't sound like a plonker when I'm ordering it. Raggamuffin Red? PMSL :D
I'll take the Rosso one - or even just RED :p

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

$15,500 but that doesn't include taxes or delivery....

Anyway, some of us launched the 500 to the American's in 2008 lol ;)

(and it's now languashing in bassment storage in Tennessee, just took these pics at the weekend of it)

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

What's the difference in performance between the new multiair and the old FIRE engine?

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

Actually its got alot to do with the engine itself. The awful dualogic semi-auto must be crap for the multiair engine, so a new 6 speed auto is an option. Obviously its more efficient whether Americans like it or not.

you sure its a new box and not the speedgear as used in mk2 puntos? they came in 6 and 7 speed.

Video on USA 500

Looks like it has new rear lights with twin reverse

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

USA version better than European version?

How can that be, it's not built in Europe for a start :D

Even the European version isn't truly Italian as it's made in Poland :p

It has a higher spec level so less 'true' to the purist roots of the original 500

Just givng something an Italian name doesn't make it more Italian

I sometimes call myself 'Roberto' and my username in Clubcento is 'Il Presidente'
but it's all for fun and doesn't change the fact that I am Robert from Gloucester England and talk like a country bumpkin

The car cannot be 'better' in any way, it will be heavier, handle worse due to heavier weight and softer suspension and warning labels about anything and everything :p

America! FCUK yeah!

Re: USA Fiat 500 better than Europe

Where are these interior shots that show armrests and gloveboxes. I've had a look at the configurator and I can't see these anywhere? And the options are pants. The promo material shows 16" O spokes in the pics but only 2 types of 15"'s as an option? Combine it with the uglified nose and it's looking a bit sad.
