Hi guys

Need some help in am in the middle of restoring my fiat 500R and I have found my steering column spline which connects to the steering box are worn and even when the pinch bolt is tight there is a lot of play when turning the wheel left and right but I am find it hard to find a replacement steering column/shaft. Does anyone know when I can source one ?
Thanks

"FD Ricambi" list the part that I think you are after, but sadly they do not have one in stock at the moment, but it might be worthwhile contacting them and check when they expect new stock. It is listed under:--'steering'--part number:--US1625. Alternatively, the only answer might be to check Italian scrap-yards for a 500 that is being used for 'parts'

That’s great I’ve emailed them hope they can source one, does anyone know any reliable italian scrap yards I can contact?

the spline part is welded in separately....
A while ago I did see someone selling these parts on one of the Italian sites (not ebay)
I cannot remember the Italian phrase...

also bear in mind there are two different splines.. and is the steering wheel spline different on later cars? other many have better knowledge than me on this...

It may be possible to remove the old spline part and have an engineering company make a new one or recut the old one.....

I had a similar issue on mine. both splines appeared in good condition, but must have been worn enough to cause an issue.

I managed to address the play in mine by running a cutting disk down the slot. Widening the slot allows the pinch bolt to tighten the 2 flanges closer together which, in turn reduces the internal diameter of the spline.

Since then I've had no issues. (with the steering column anyway!)

Thanks for the advise, I’ve taken a stab in the dark I’ve ordered a used 126 steering column and going to see if I could use spline from that and get it welded onto mine, I’ll let you know how I get on.... finger crossed

Hi guys I managed to repair the column by cut the spline off and welding a 126 spline, works a treat no more play
