Technical Sloppy gears

The gearchange on my tipo is a bit loose. Took the gator off and i can see the nylon pivot ball, thing is I can lift the gear stick upwards about 6-7mm as the ball isn't tight in it's cage.

Should it be? If not how big a lump needs replacing underneath? Same on any other cars? 5 door Sedici? Worth while replacing the control arms with rose joints on threaded bar at the same time?


There's a couple of other things I need to tighten up on the car, going to change the lower arms and track rods - and check the state of the steering rack as there is a little bit of play in the steering.

mine is solid, no movement at all. cant see it being a big job to change.

The nylon will be worn on the stick, making it loose in part 7, I know this as I had the same problem. Have to take the big bit off the bottom of the car to get it out, easy if you know how.

Oh use those eye shaped bits, you'll see the rods do have ball joints on the end. the steering rack main pivot maybe a little worn but mainly the gear stick ball.
