General Is your Panda overcooling in the cold weather?

Please forgive my ignorance before you read this ...

Sparky the panda seems to be quite happy between 70 & 90 degrees in varying conditions this evening (first time I really paid attention to the guage is after I clocked this thread)... Cold as all bu**ery though and my heater/ de-mister hasn't worked properly since the ambient temperature dropped below about 5 degrees in the mornings on the way to work... I really don't mind 'cause it's still warmer than the walk from the car but I could handle being warmer!!

It's an injected engine but I can get caught in moody traffic so I'm not sure whether to blank off the rad given that the water temp seems fine... Sorry if I missed someting above but how do I make inside the car warmer without changing anything else?

Cheers... Luke.

Make sure the fresh air vent is closed.

Otherwise, very likely to be air in the heater matrix. Bleed using the bleed screw on the pipe that enters the heater box. Do this with heater control set to hot. If little or no effect, blanking part of the rad will make the engine run hotter and will make the output of the heater warmer. My heater was so hot today, I could open the window and get a nice air circulation.

Hi Luke, beside possibility of air into heater matrix, check the adjusting pipe (for coolant flow through matrix) and adjusting bars, command wires etc. Could be that some wire don’t turn pipe fully, or some mechanism bars were blocked. (mechaniks for fresh and semi-fresh intake.....)
For easy reference, here is some pic:http://217.26.67.168/uploads/2/1/2111628/heater1.JPG

Been following the thread with interest and for lack of heat coming into the cabin I'd definatley check aca's idea. From my personal experience the heater control valve was the problem. For some reason, even with the lever set to hot the valve hardly opened. In the end I disconnected everything, opened the valve fully by hand, set the lever to hot, reconnected everything.... and because I've now got hot air, haven't dared touch the lever since!

Saw this on ebay that made me smile. Item number 350138825731

And for an even lower tech way to solve the screen iceing up on the inside, in the old works van (an old Astra with no heating what-so-ever)we used to keep a clean cloth lightly moistened with de-icer. As well as good for clearing the start-up mist it did keep it ice free.

I bought second hand webasto (sp?) heating unit for the BMW years ago but never got round to fitting it. It basically uses the cars fuel supply on a timer so you can set the timer to 30min before you get in and it's toastie warm. It doesn't require the engine to be running.

Well gents, many thanks!!! (y)

I'll bleed the matrix and check the mechanical stuff...

Aca, I couldn't open the links you posted, not sure if it is my computers fault tho, I am fairly computer illiterate  ...

Thanks again, Luke...

Ill try to upload directly, here it is:

Blimey!!! Is that what all that black plastic stuff up by the windscreen is when you open the bonnet!?!...

If I want to get the leaf out of the blower that has been doing my head in since I got the car I'm guessing that'll be in there somewhere too....

Cheers again... (y)

P.S. Is a quiet Panda really a Panda?
