Hi Guys,
found it! It's a 3 pin connector with only two wires and is under the bonnet near the ecu. Will post a pic of it and give details on how to connect to an elm327 interface. I've managed to get my laptop to talk to the ecu but the software I have is unlicenced so it won't tell me what the error codes are for the problem I have. I've downloaded some more freeware s/w and hopefully one of these will do the job, will let you know.
Keep well,
Torq
I have a problem with a 2001 2.8 JTD.
Two seperate diesel specialists have been unable to communicate with the ECU (one used three different readers), and the Fiat main dealer hasn't been a main dealer for long and so hasn't got the older diagnostic equipment.
From other posts it looks as though 'failure to communicate' could point to an ECU problem, but from eBay it looks as though elm327 cables and laptop software are easily and cheaply available so I thought I would check out getting my own diagnostic kit for future use.
The problem is as follows; after driving for a short time the fuel injection warning light comes on at low revs and low throttle openings.
For a while the light cleared with a bit extra throttle and revs but the problem is getting progressively worse and now the Van ('A line' camper on Fiat Ducato/Alko chassis) is virtually undriveable.
The Fiat main dealer is trying to get hold of some diagnostic equipment but not doing too well, and may have to send the vehicle to another branch. This should be interesting for them unless they send it on the back of a truck!
From reading so far the likely culprits seem to be the ECU and/or the throttle sensor.
BTW my favourite diesel specialist only charges £25 to read codes, but then they are a small garage and pretty good guys all round.
Cheers
