Hi,
Found you all through desperation!!
My motorhome 3.0 diesel ducato LHD is non starting, I borrowed a reader and got error po335 crankshaft sensor fault.

I ordered a new one but have spent 5 hours trying to locate it!

Unable to find info on the location on google or you tube.

It is fitted with a 10mm bolt and electrical plug I understand.

Any help would be fantastic.

If you check the downloads section there is an Iveco pdf. as they use the same Sofim engines which may help.:)

The Ducato Training Manual (there are two, one specific to the 3.0 litre engine) available in the downloads (I think) gives some info.

It describes your DTC as being specific to the "engine RPM sensor". Not the best of pictures, but it may help.

If instead it's the timing sensor (for which that DTC isn't listed) then a second picture might help

Thanks for the speedy replies, I will resume my efforts tomorrow, the motorhome hasn't missed a beat all year, heading off for 3 months in August, sods law, my wife none to happy!

Aside the van is starting now but will not rev, pumping out diesel rich smoke

Was plugged in and faulted on crankshaft sensor, I replaced this with a bosch and the fault remained but cleared on the diagnostic reader.
Got a mobile mechanic who said faulty oil pressure switch, replaced but no change.
Got it plugged in to snap on diagnostic thingy and got these codes
U1602 can line; bus off
U171A refer to OEM REPAIR info for description
Frazzled and disillusioned
50 miles from fiat dealer and would need to transport
Any help would be most gratefully received

I see that @dryburgh has posted his problem on the Out and Aboute Live (OAL) forum.

Apparently the engine is now starting but stuck at 1000rpm, and overfueling as evidenced by black smoke, smelling of diesel.

He has been advised on the OAL forum, to check the air filter for damage, and to fit an additional engine block earth connection. Low voltage (to the ECU?) has been suggested.

It seems self evident that the original reported fault, a faulty crank sensor would prevent the engine from starting, as the ECU would not know when to inject.

I cannot see the logic behind changing an oil pressure sensor, or was this a fuel pressure sensor?

The possible faulty engine earth strap could perhaps be eliminated by a temporary jump lead between an engine lifting lug, and a clean chassis point. Failure of this earth strap is known to cause various alarms, and the ECU will only act on what it receives.

When @dryburgh has completed these checks, he should report the outcome on both forums. If fault codes persist then perhaps use of MES or similar would yield more appropriate information, but I appreciate that this cannot be done by 1st August.

Hi I have now checked the earth strap, it is fine, there is no chafing to the loom from metal support
I opened and flipped the fuse board beside the air filter and unplugged all connectors, they are dry and clean.
I noticed the secondary battery under the seat is low 10.8v so have ordered a replacement, I can make it start by multiple cranking but still only to under 1000rpm, once hot it will hunt to just over 1000rpm.
Have fitted new battery to key just in case.

Past our departure day now Wife not talking!!!

Any other suggestions gratefully received

Do you have a really good Specialist Diagnostic Company that all the local trade use, down here there is one that the trade complains about the cost (as usual) but if stuck always go to for a cure. Don't go for some advert in the media, it has to be a multiple personal recommendation by several traders.
The only problem you may have is they often don't like Motor Homes due to size.
If it is a good one they will not dabble around the edges but go straight to the cause. Just bring your wallet.;)

The earth strap has been reported as suffering from internal corrosion. Hence visual inspection not sufficient. The use of a jump cable between an engine lifting lug and a clean earthing point is frequently recomended.

Hi, I know you are dealing with a different issue on your van but please update this thread with the cause and solution.

Hi, I eventually got a fiat master technician to take a look, he used a camera to identify it was a seized gate on the throttle body, a common problem due to water ingress.
He told me the part no, and showed me the 4 bolts to remove, I changed myself and motorhome running g fine, sorry for the oversight of updating.
