Technical 2004 8v manual gearbox problem

Hello everyone

I have a roblem that showed up lately on my gearbox

all the gears are working like charm except the fifth gear

once it's in it fits with no problem but when i accelerate it moves like half an inch out of it's place

when the pedal is pressed or released it moves , no other gear does that they are all working perfectly

i checked the oil level and it was ok,

I use the 5th gear most of the time as the car is mainly used on highways

can anyone tell where the problem is? can it be the gearbox linkage or the gearitself is worn?

I'm not expert with this but i read someplace that the fifth gear is the last gear and there is a nut holding all gears on their shaft inside the gearbox, and could it be the nut loose and needs tightening?

If it doesn't actually jump out of gear. the issue is more likely to be with the linkeage.

Take a look at the linkeage while someone else works the gearstick. Should be virtually no slop.

5th syncro is least likely to go due the nature of the gearbox

So i'd be tempted to say yes - there is a linkage problem

So get the cable off - ensure they are free moving - lube up - and ensure the linkage on the actual gearbox is good too!

hey mates ,

went to the garage today and checked the linkage and every part outside the gearbox.

all where fine and the problem is still here so the issue is inside the gearbox now

tomorrow or after i'll check the gearbox from the inside and try to see if the nuts on the end of the shaft needs tightening or something as the problem is with the fifth gear only and if not i'll see if it can be fixed or i'll have to buy another gear box
