General Replacing Rear Bushes and Wheel Bearings ..

Whats with bleeding the brakes, The pipes are not joined to the axle are they.

I was just hoping that i could undo the callipers and throw a bit of string over the roof for tother one. Leave em to dangle whilst taking off the disc's and then just drop the axle.

But oh no this is a Stilo, Im bound to have to remove bl**dy brake pipes in the process of doing something else. Par for the course i guess.

told ya. doddle isnt it!!
even oversized oems go in without any hassle and no more re sizing them, pushing them out is just as easy!!
money well spent as this tool can be used for many jobs!!
i just cant understand why no one had tried this method before hand, was it the cost of the tool i wonder??!!.
well done mate!!

the beauty about this tool is you can do the axle bushes easily in situ so no more brake bleeding and heavy axle carrys. The only other tool you need is a good set of spring compressors.

Before I purchased the threaded bearing puller to do the bushes on our Stilo a few years ago I did think about buying a Hydraulic Bearing Puller, even suggested it on a thread on here somewhere. Myself, Davren and a few others discussed different ways to replace the rear bushes but I was convinced I could do the job with the axle still attached to the car but finding the right tool was a problem. I found Hydraulic bearing pullers of about the right size but they were £100+ and I was not willing to risk that sort of money on a tool the couldn't do what I wanted it to do. When you decided to do yours again I was hoping you would use a hydraulic puller and prove I was right 2 years ago.

You did use one and it worked brilliantly. :worship:

So I purchased one too now I know it can do the job. (y)

I'm going to have another 3 pronged tool, disk for pushing out old bushes and ring for pushing new bushes in made that are better suited to the new hydraulic puller. Really pleased with it, will make replacing Stilo bushes so much easier.

The brake pipes sit on top of the axle and are connected to the chassis with a flex hose. Bleeding brakes is easy and it really shouldnt worry you, if you cannot do it im sure you can find someone who can and get them to help. The amount of times ive bleed brakes i always get the mrs to help and now she can do it.

just undo the union at the axle hangers under the plastic (useless info, i chopped of the plastic shield on mine as they are in the way, i just cover the brake union with grease to protect it after), easiest way to do it - but make sure you have a old ice cream tub x 2 to catch any hydraulic spills, get yourself a plug to stop loosing all the fluid.
Removing the pipes is not pratical imho you will probally cause more damage, you still need to remove the handbrake cables. Just remove it all in one hit and then remove the parts you want to keep, it will be much easier that way.

i remember that thread, i think i was also involved with it, at the time i was pot less so went for the cheapest way possible - and it worked out more expensive lol.
i suppose your going to edit the guide now to reflect this new and improoved proceedue?.
For me now changing both bushes is about 3hrs in total in situ!!, big step down to 3 hrs per bush removal - im sure thats the reason why fiat said 2 sets total as the amount of bashing and heat that needed to be applied, at least this way no heat and zero bashing is needed....

Don't suppose you'd consider hiring out this tool? I'm needing to replace the rear bushes on my stilo before I sell it. :(

I've been using the camera on my Nokia N8 to take photo's of everything I've done to this axle.
Just took a photo of the completed axle, new bushes, new wheel bearings and hubs, new nuts, washers, dust caps, bolts and painted.

This was the result.

And off to the local Nokia repair centre my phone goes. :(

You been using a wire brush to keep the lens clean or something?? :p

Just to ask if you're still up for me sending you a pair of front wishbones to get superflex bushes made for them? :)

And are you going doing this on an on going basis? I would be interested in one some time as well.

The camera zoom seems to be stuck in close up mode, worked perfectly yesterday when I used it to video my lads on a tyre swing ..

Yes I'll give the wishbone thing a try, my new hydraulic puller should be powerful enough to push them in.

With regards to the axle, PM sent .. ;)

Looking kinda good Stu.

Another N8 user then, One of the best phones nokia has made in the recent past me thinks.

Hi i went to do my MOT, and i have been advised to replace my rear trailing arm bush.
However i cannot find any part shop which does rear trailing arm bush.

is there any other names for trailing arm bush for fiat stilo. I keep wondering
unsure.gif

is this the same as subframe bush?
axle bush is it all the same?
How many bushes are there on rear fiat stilo?
need to narrow this down. Tried Europarts but cannot see name is trailing arm bush for rear.

if anyone know where i can purchase please let me know.

Well this is to thank Stu (shadeyman) for his brilliant work and at a very good price and even delivered it too me.
I also now have a proxy aligned dash showing the correct mileage.

Great work and highly recommended to all other forum members.

The only fly in the ointment was my blondness which caused me a headache.

See if you can spot whats wrong with my rear disc.??
