Connected battery, turned over but wont start and the engine continues to turn over with the ignition key out. Have to disconnect the battery to stop the engine turning over. Any ideas??

Fuse box and battery cover are missing and it was a very bad night for rain so suspect the battery discharge was related to that. Have tried to source a second hand battery and fuse box cover but to no avail. Quoted about £65 for new one!!

Thanks for that, is it possible to get the electrical part of the ignition switch or does it come as a single unit. How easy is it to replace?

The switch is only available complete with the lock. Are you sure that's where the fault is? Have you tested it?

It's fitted to the steering column with shear bolts so you would need to drill, or hammer them out to remove it.

Thanks for the help, will try do check the wiring next weekend in daylight, I have taken off the fuse box and thoroughly cleaned it so dont think the problem is there but will need to get a cover. Is there anything that can be fitted under the engine to prevent water getting near to the battery.

The fuse box has a lot of metal stips inside. The incress of water causes shorts creating strange faults. The water will also corrode the stips allowing them to short out. The strips are very close together in some area's so make sure you dry the fuse box completely by leaving it on top of a radiator over night or as long as possible.

Thanks again, I cant do much till later in the week so I will remove it again and leave it on top of the radiator. When it was removed yesterday it was completely stripped down, removing all fuses and relays and splitting the plastic box.
