Hi all,
id like to share my experience regarding my panda not starting when warm.

Ive been having a few issues over several weeks with the car taking a long time to start giving the 'engine failure' message or not starting at all.
On trying to solve the problem we noticed that there was no spark whilst trying to start the car so today I resorted to calling out the AA who within minutes had isolated the fault to crankshaft sensor which im told would not allow it to 'spark' if it was faulty/broke which it turned out to be.
A common problem im told when the engine is warm then stood for a while.
Since this sensor was replaced I have ( touch wood!) had no problems and she starts first time every time in a fraction of a second.
Ive noticed other posts mentioning the same problem so perhaps it may be worth just changing that sensor which cost me £30
I also bought new plugs and leads which have yet to be fitted but now ive got them!!!

Hope this information proves useful to anyone else who has had a frustrating time trying to get their car started with similar symptoms

P.S I will be keeping a close eye on how things go on and ill let you all know if the problem returns

Well problems back

Crank shaft position sensor malfunction! code P0335
As this was replaced with a new one yesterday further examination was necessary, knowing the sensor had been replaced he unplugged it and plugged back in and she fired up first time! hooray

then whilst he was still underneath it it stopped again

I was gutted BUT he had 'wiggled' the sensor plug which stopped the engine.

The plug contacts were cleaned with contact cleaner and now she fires up every time ALTHOUGH im waiting till its time to go back to work to prove his theory right! The wiring was checked and all voltages were correct and no resistances so all I need to do now is get he garage to fit a new plug and weather proof it which caused the problem in the first place.

Strike 3 ! Yep same problem and same AA man to the rescue!

He got it started and we took it to a FIAT garage. yes going to be expensive I know but to not stress out over whether it will start first thing

fault still showing as ' Crank shaft position sensor malfunction! code P0335'

Told the mechanic that we had fitted a brand new sensor and first quest back was....'was it a genuine part or a pattern part'!

Well i'll see Monday what's what as its going on 'their' 'see everything diagnostic machine and take it from there. So keep watching!!!! we see how this fault unravels and cured

Their first response will be to fit one of their sensors, as your "doesn't read correctly". Standard practice. Chances of that curing the issue? 20% at best. What condition was the crank pulley in?

Hi,

Went to fiat garage and they fitted one of their 'preferred' sensors and problem solved!

The crank pulley is in very good condition, I think, as do the garage that the cam belt has been changed by a novice who left several issues which left to me to 'cure'!

The pattern part was found to be working fine on the diagnostic tests , Just you had to get the car started first to check it!
The AA had to remove the sensor and replace to get it to start, after 3 call outs in 3 days it was best option for fiat to sort. cast a bit more but now have a fully working car and more importantly...reliable
